AP Credit

does anyone know of a way to check to see if emory has recieved/accepted the credit from an AP exam? i know that you must have a 4 or 5 but i can't find anywhere that says that the school has given me credit for those classes.

go look on opus. If you look under something like "transfer credit report" under the "academic" tab, you will see it.

As musiclover said, go to OPUS:

Learner Services > Academics > View Transfer Credit Report

ALSO:

Learner Services > Academics > View Unofficial Transcript > (Report Type) > Advising Document (** this will show what the equivalent Emory course credit you get **)

thanks. for some reason my ap credit is not showing up there. i guess i'll have to call them tomorrow.

I took some college courses at a community college and sent in transcripts. Would they show up here as well? Also, could somebody tell me if we are required to take any shots before entering Emory.I believe I misplaced the paper that contained that info. Thank you so much for your help.

ssharif, you should have received a large envelope of information by now... and yes, there are some immunizations you may want to have.

See the following link for Emory Student Health Services and look at everything pertinent to freshmen/first year students:

http://www.emory.edu/UHS/

This may be a stupid question, but I have seriously struggled with finding the answer. Google failed me, for once.

How does one even send AP scores? ( I did not put "emory" down on my AP tests). Is there anyway to send them by way of the internet?

Blaze, when you received your most recent AP scores, during the past month to month/half, you will have received a form that you can submit for "AP Grade Report Request", indicating college code#, college, address, etc. It costs $15 for each grade report. For rush reporting (release within 2 working days and sent out via 1st class mail), you can call (609) 771-7300 or (999) 225-5427.

You should have information on your name, AP Number, H.S., etc.

The registrar will accept AP scores and transfer credit for incoming freshman and transfer until the end of their first semester.

dgball, I'm not certain, but Blaze may be concerned about using AP credits to place out of a requirement, i.e., Freshman English 181 satisfaction via AP English Lit Exam. How do the FAME advisors handle for somebody who hasn't already had scores sent/recorded on OPUS?

Thanks for the response, guys.

Yeah -- I guess I'm going to have to call that number or find my AP transcript. Blah, which stinks.. I prefer placing orders and what not online. Also, the price is a bit high! I guess college credit is worth it though!

No, I did not take the AP English exam. (I was in regular English, which IMO was more fulfilling than AP would have been due to the fact that my teacher was amazing, from which I learned that often the teacher is more valuable than the difficulty/subject of the class!)

All I meant to say was that no one should throw any more money at the College Board. Don't rush your scores to Emory, you have plenty of time. It's not essential that they be recoreded the day that classes start.

Neither my FAME advisor nor my current faculty advisor has ever looked at my transcript through OPUS, as far as I know. I bring a printed version to them if I have a question.

I don't know how to explain this, but I'm going to try...

The advisors don't really have that active a part in choosing your classes. It's more a resource. You bring your class choices to them and then talk them over, if you so choose. You can then decide if these classes are right for you. They're still going to allow you to register (or not take a class that you APed out of) even if your AP credit doesn't show up on your transcript. Freshman English and semniars can be taken either in the Fall or Spring.

FAME is really more of a safety net to make sure that you do register for class and get plenty of assistance, if you need it. I think most people are able to figure things out for themselves, though.

Remember, you have at least 6 student advisors to talk to and help you through the whole registration/orientation process. Your student Orientation Leader is a great resource for this, as are the Sophomore Advisors and RA, who live on your hall. The FAME student advisors are there specifically for Registration and OPUS questions as well. You will have all these people's email addresses and contact information by the second day of orientation. A lot of it is really confusing, and everyone is cluless. You'll work with the other kids in your hall and figure it out. It's a huge change, but September is definitly the best month of school. Be excited.

There is also a degree progess report somewhere in OPUS that tells you which GERs have not been fulfilled, yet.

I feel like that was a lot longer of an answer than was really necessary, but I think that, somewhere in there, I answered your question NorCalDad.

just to update, i emailed admissions about my apscores not showing up and they told me that they are updating opus and that everything should be there by the middle of next week.

dgebll, as always, thanks for your great insight! I'm trying to absorb a lot of this and make sure my daughter picks up on all of this when she gets back into the country next week.

I just checked OPUS and my daughter's AP scores are listed.

Dgebll -

Great info as usual!

Son's AP scores were credited on OPUS, but there's nothing about his transfer credits from U Chicago. Should these be listed in the same place? Looks as if he'll have to call or email someone to follow up on this. Anyone know whom he should contact about this?

i think that those scores should also show up on your transfer credit report. you can contact the admissions staff because they are the ones who deal with transfer issues. i think their email addess is admissions@emory.edu

Thanks amandani. I'll pass that info on.

Thanks for the health info norcaldad and thanks to all for all the other helpful info...I can't believe college is 2 weeks away!!

My daughter received Emory credit for both AP Spanish and a study abroad course she took in Spain in the summer of 2005. The problem is that Emory gave her credit for Spanish 102 for both, even though the study abroad course is an advanced course. Should she make any effort to have the study abroad course reclassified as an upper division course, since Emory obviously cannot give her credit for Spanish 102 twice. If so, who does she contact?
