AP Credit.

OK so I don't understand how AP credit works for colleges.

I checked the sites of a few schools I'm looking at, and it says which classes can be skipped if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP tests. But do you just skip that class and start off on a higher level, or do you get a grade that affects your GPA (like a score of 4 equals a B in the college class?). I would love if someone could clear this up for me.

I think it just shows up as Pass so it doesn't affect your GPA. I know that I met my American History/Institution requirement at Cal through my SAT II score and it just says "MET."

At my daughter's university, she gets credits for the AP (6 credits for APUSH, 3 for AP Psych) but no letter grade to factor into the GPA.

alrite, thank you.

wait, jk.
one more thing.

if a school accepts both 4 and 5s for something, how do they differentiate between the two scores if not through grades? It doesn't make sense that someone who got a 4 is on equal standing with someone who got a 5.

Well at Cal and many of the other UCs, it's 3-4-5.
