AP Credit

I've technically paid for all four of my AP tests but I'm contemplating on whether I should back out on some of them. I'll be a biochemistry major at nova this fall. But the AP tests I was planning on taking are...

AP Bio
AP Chem
AP Psychology
AP Calculus BC

Since I'm a science major, I have to general bio and chem and calculus first semester of my freshman year. So if I got 5's on my AP tests, would I automatically be forced to take more advanced science classes? I figure, to get the best GPA I shouldn't take the AP credit for calc, bio, and chem because then I'd be taking credit that I otherwise could be excelling in in college.

Hopefully you guys know what I mean. If anyone has any insight, can you please let me know...

I’d take them anyway (for $86 per test, my parents would bring the test to me in bed if they had to haha), but I understand what you mean. I’m also in the same situation as a science major, and although I’m still taking AP Calculus AB nonetheless, I decided not to take AP Chemistry exam. I feel like it may be useful to get the AP Psych credit though. I’m also taking English Literature because unfortunately I got a 3 on English Language so I’m hoping I could do well on that one.
Other than that, sorry I don’t have a useful suggestion x_x but that’s where I’m headed. My general suggestion (which I’m certain you planned on doing anyway) is to take all of them, and if you decide not to take the credits or you realize that the credits are not usable, then that’s that.

im pretty sure that if you get 4 or 5s on aps you arent forced to validate them…if i was in your situation, i certainly would take all the credit you can get…while you’d be in higher level courses sooner, you obviously have proven that you have the foundation, so being behind isnt an issue…also you wouldnt be forced to take the same credit load during the semester as someone else coming in with no aps would…fewer credits=more time to concentrate on your courses=usually better gpa…just some food for thought

So, if I were to get credit for AP Biology and get credit for General Biology I, then I wouldn’t take the class? Hypothetically speaking, if i took 12 credits and bio was 4 of the 12, then id only be taking 8 credits, while still gaining credit for the class? A bit confused…

(It is your responsibility to provide the testing company with full information, such as personal identification, Villanova’s college code, etc. so that the AP credit administration process can be accomplished efficiently.) Based on your scores, you may receive College credit at Villanova. "

Also consider the course loads and study abroad implications.

If you would like to study abroad for a semester , you will want to get the course credit for basic bio, chem and/or calc. The science major course load is tough and study abroad is limited to summer sessions for some students due to the course load.If you can get get credit for basic sciences course , you will be ahead of the game and give yourself scheduling flexibility for soph & jr year.

It can be very confusing !!! Let advising help you figure it out.

that was pretty much what i was trying to say, but you did it in a less convoluted manner ulysses :)

TAKE THEM
no you don’t have to take advanced classes, but you’d save more money in the long run. it won’t HURT you can only help you. STUDY cuz they’re a lot easier than taking the actual class. i’d give priority to CHEM, CALC, BIO cuz psych here is doable. as for the others, it’s so much easier to get the credit via AP. sciences are graded harshly here cuz they’re trying to weed out all the pre-med kids. as for calc, it just sucks everywhere wouldn’t you rather finish it now than later?
