AP Credit

This is my dillema: I didn't take any IB or AP classes in HS, I am in my second smester of CC and was wondering if I took an AP exam, if that will make me more marketable to top universities? Or would that just be a waste of time?

You would probably get some units, but I don’t see many college students taking AP tests to get credit. I don’t think AP credit will help much to get into those schools.

I thought AP tests were only offered to HS students, but I may be wrong.

Junior 108763 - Just for clarification, are you a HS student who’s HS allows qualifying students to participate in Post Secondary classes at local CC or University?

Also, is your question referring to AP exam(s) for subjects you think you can self study for?

No, I am not a HS student, I graduated five years ago. I would self study for the AP exam. Just wanted to see how I could better market myself to top tier universities. I am seeking options.

I’m not sure, but this is my opinion: AP exams look good for colleges because they show that a high school student is able to handle college-level work. Good scores allow most students to skip introductory courses or earn college credit. Since you’re already out of high school and have started taking college already, you’ve already shown that you can handle college-level work. I do not think that AP exams would help you in your case, but I’m not an expert. It’s better to ask an admissions officer if you can.

APs are for h.s. students. if you graduated five years ago and are currently taking college level classes at a CC, then there is nothing “advanced” about a first-year level course. Just work hard on your CC classes. Get the best grades you can - you will be fine.

Thanks for all the help!! It really helps…
