AP Credits and General Education..?

I apologize if this was asked already somewhere, but I am somewhat confused about the relationship between AP credits and Davis. It clearly states on the course catalog for this year that “Students may not present Advanced Placement or International
Baccalaureate credit in satisfaction of GE requirements.”

Are AP credits worth anything besides getting into a more advanced class?

My mother is currently quite upset that she spent more than $500 on AP tests for me that are worth nothing in my college education.

Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

AP credits count towards transferable units so you get higher priority when you pick classes. I got bumped up to sophomore standing after my first quarter and it’s pretty big when you’re in a major that requires classes like Chem 2B or Physics 9A.

Thanks for responding kingofthering!

Ok. So as a social science major, would this be as helpful?

What kind of social science major? If it’s psychology early pass times will let you get into the really good stuff that everybody wants, especially upper divs and GEs that fill up quickly. I was briefly a psych major but didn’t stay around long enough to enjoy the perks of early pass times.

It is a SUPER big deal for engineers and other sciences, though.

The AP credits also count towards your ‘free’ electives. For example, your major might require 45 units GE requirements, 80 units major requirements, and 45 units ‘electives’. Some majors have more free electives than others. My engineering major has no free electives. You should be able to find your major on the website to determine this.
Also, you can tell your mom that you may not have gotten in to davis without all those APs!
