AP Credits and transferring colleges

I am currently a student enrolled at my community college and have 25 credits from AP tests. I plan on being a sophomore transfer and a few of the colleges that I would like to transfer require that I take two courses in Calculus during the year but do not take AP credit for my score. My community college rewarded me credits from the Calculus AB exam and I do not have to Calculus I during my Fall semester. I plan on taking Calc II in the Spring semester. My question is, are the credits rewarded from the AB exam qualify as one course in Calculus? If not, should I just take Calculus II during the winter and take Calculus III in the spring?

Usually, the college you transfer to will re-evaluate your AP credit based on its own chart.

Your transfer target college should have more information what courses are acceptable, though it is very likely that calculus 2 + calculus 3 will be accepted in lieu of calculus 1 + calculus 2.

You may want to try your college’s old calculus 1 final exams to check your knowledge of the material by the college’s standards before skipping to calculus 2.

If it’s a UC, Calc 2 course will validate Calc 1 and they will honor the CCC’s decision.

It is entirely possible that you might be a sophomore transfer from your CC because your AP credits fulfill the CC’s graduation requirements, but still find out that a target college/university gives you no credit for any of the AP exams. So do check the AP policies of each of your targets. If things aren’t clear from their websites, pick up the phone and call them about it.

You also might want to run this situation by the Transfer Advisor at your CC. That person may be familiar with the AP policies of at least some of your targets.

Thanks so much for the responese! The colleges I plan on applying are not UC’s but I’m going to contact the schools I’m interested in. I am comfortable skipping to Calc II but in hindsight I probably should have done all this research before scheduling my classes. Anyways, transfer applications are due in March so I still have plenty of time to tackle this issue.
