AP Credits at Georgia Tech

Does anyone know how many AP credits Georgia Tech accepts for incoming freshmen? Some schools I know have a limit to the number of credit hours you can waive through AP credits; does Tech have anything like this?

Sorry if this was already here in the forum; just link me to it

Thanks!

AP Credit can get you out of a few introductory classes. I don’'t think there’s a limit. They also take English and Chemistry SAT IIs for credit.

Don’t pay attention to the AP Calc credit in the link above. Looks like GT hasn’t changed it yet. You will need to look at the new math sequence to see how many credits you will get for AP Calc.

So if a kid receives 5’s in both AP Calc AB and then a 5 in AP calc BC they want them to take the credit and skip ahead to basically the equivalent of Calc 3? This is a bit confusing since the kids we know who scored 5’s started fresh year with calc 2.

No. Calc 3 is currently 2401 but will be called 2551. Kids who have 5’s on BC Calc will start out with 1564. Which is linear algebra. Which is now broken out. I think the reason that the BC kids used to have to take Calc 2 was because it had linear algebra in it and I guess that isn’t covered by BC. At least that’s the way I think it is…

To elaborate, the math department is giving placement exams for at least Calc I, II and Intro. to Linear Algebra in August, for incoming Freshman who don’t have AP/IB credit for those courses and would like to enroll in a higher level math course.

I recently got admitted to Georgia Tech’s college of engineering. I am in my senior year and already gave my AS level examinations. Does Georgia Tech allow credit transfer from A level exams? I am an international student obviously. I received A* in A level Mathematics and A in AS Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I believe I will get A or higher in my final A level results as well.

From what I’ve heard public schools generally accept more AP credits than private schools. If they do put a limit on the amount of AP’s you can use for credit, I’m sure they will allow you to use more rather than less. Some may go to fill an “elective” requirement, which is still helpful.

Is there any type of deadline for sending in AP scores?

The student should have listed Georgia Tech at the time of taking the AP tests although not sure if that would coverr previous years. If not, definitely send before student attends orientation. If the student did send scores Georgia Tech will know scores in time for all orientations. You can see them under test scores. My daughter actually found out early last year because of this.

@Stilltay they include full score reports from all years when students select a college during the testing days.
