I was recently accepted to UCI as a transfer student from another UC campus, and I really need to know if my AP credits are included in the 90 unit course minimum. I have 83 units that I recieved from my college classes. My 24 AP units make my unit count at my current university well over 90. Logically, I feel like UCI should count these units (as my current college is counting them), but I have my doubts. I’ve called the UCI admissions office three times today, and I’ve gotten a different answer every time.
They don’t count AP.
Hey homie, they do not count AP tests towards the 90 unit maximum they’ve established–that’s only for college coursework.
Here’s a source to help reassure you further: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-maximum-limitation-policy-chart.pdf
@HeideggerNSartre What I’ve just seen from this source is that having more credits than the credit cap of 105 quarter-units due to AP credits won’t put the applicant at risk of being denied admission. But I don’t see anything about the 90 quarter-unit minimum that I was originally asking about. I’ve been able to find this information regarding AP credits and the transfer student unit cap, but nothing regarding the unit minimum. You may have misread my original post, but I could totally understand why you did (the same number–90–is used for the semester-unit maximum and for the quarter-unit minimum). Thanks for the link though! I have 107 quarter units with my AP credits, so it’s definitely helpful to me nonetheless.
@cawledj Oh! I just realized what you’re talking about. You’re talking about having Junior standing, and if AP tests count towards the 60 semester units/90 quarter units you need before you’re even eligible to transfer to a UC.
Yes! They do count, absolutely. In fact, I was able to transfer in just one year here at a Community College because of my AP credits, and your AP units tip you over the 90 unit minimum.
