I understand that if you get any passing grade on most AP tests you get unit credits - general non-course fulfilling units, right?

But say for example I got a passing grade on Calc AB, which waives me from taking Math 1A. Can I still take Math 1A, is it a choice? And if I do take the class, do I still get the general non-course fulfilling units from the AP test?

You can still take Math 1A if you want, but I advise against it since it's a weeder course... and so is Math 1B.

Would those classes be that difficult if you took AP Calculus BC, since you are familiar with the material? That's what I am taking, but I am not too faithful in my abilities to do really well on the AP exam.

NO. It's harder according to those who I've asked who has taken BC, and there is material that isn't covered in BC. Math 1B is one of the worst weeders apparently, and it is hell for me since I wasn't able to take BC in hs. Though others would argue they would not have the grouding/foundation to take Math 53/54, but my friends have skipped them and done fine.

That kind of sucks. Hahaha, I thought I wouldn't mind taking them because I wouldn't remember my Calculus very well by the time I started the year. But now, it doesn't sound too great.

It IS doable though? Or is it ridiculously difficult?

It depends a lot of the professor, and the competition for that particular semester. There use to be one professor who failed 50% of the class (fail = d/f).

Well, I'm doing Fall Extension so, hopefully, I'll have a smaller than normal class for Math 1A if that is what I end up doing.

But most professors are willing to help out or answer questions if you're having trouble with a topic right?

Well Im going to be in the college of chemistry so I dont think I have a choice :P

So I can still take the class but still get unit credits from the ap test?

"Well, I'm doing Fall Extension so, hopefully, I'll have a smaller than normal class for Math 1A if that is what I end up doing."

Professor Smith is the BEST. FYI :) He is VERY nice in office hours.

If I pass Calc AB AP exam, can I also get out of Math 1B? It sounds painful.
If not, can I take classes at local community college to waive it?

What about the BC test?

I only know what I've read about the college of chemistry. Passing AB = 1A, 5 on BC = 1A and 1B.

Can someone answer my question?

I will keep that name in mind!

And yea, I believe so. AP credit is meant to give you units in college, though it depends on whether or not the college accepts the AP class.
