AP Credits

So from the UC website (http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/exam-credit/ap-credits/berkeley/index.html), certain AP tests are listed under different colleges within Berkeley. I'm in the College of Letters and Science, but only ~5 AP credits are listed under there. Does that mean that the college takes no other AP credits?!?!?! I've taken quite a few and signed up for 5 more this year...I don't want it to be a waste...

If I’m not mistaken, I think you get unit credits for each test (check the UC system website and divide those numbers by 1.5 for semester units), but only some tests waive classes depending on the college.

That web site is correct for AP credit that fulfills L&S requirements and unit credit.

However, in addition, some L&S majors do accept AP credits for specific courses or requirements. For example:

Math major: 3+ on calculus AB or BC = Math 1A; 5 on calculus BC = Math 1A and 1B, but note that some material in Math 1B may not have been covered in high school calculus BC. http://math.berkeley.edu/courses/choosing/ap-exams

Computer science major (L&S): Math 1A and 1B “can be satisfied with Advanced Placement” (ask department for specifics; EECS uses CoE rules). <a href=“CS Major Information | EECS at UC Berkeley”>CS Major Information | EECS at UC Berkeley;

Economics major: calculus as for math major; 4+ on both economics = Economics 1. <a href=“Freshmen Information | Department of Economics”>Freshmen Information | Department of Economics;

Psychology major: 4+ on psychology = Psychology 1; 4+ on biology counts as one biological science course; 4+ US or comparable government counts as one social studies course if the other is not political science. http://psychology.berkeley.edu/students/undergraduate-program/about-major

Political science major: 4+ on US government allows substitution of an upper division political science course for Political Science 1, but the substituted course does not count toward the number of upper division courses for the major. <a href=“Declaring the Political Science Major | UC Berkeley Political Science”>http://polisci.berkeley.edu/undergraduate-program/declaring-major

Molecular and cell biology major: 4+ on chemistry = Chemistry 1A/1AL; 4+ on biology = Biology 1A/1AL and 1B (but taking Biology 1A/1AL anyway is recommended even if you have AP credit). <a href=“New Freshmen Q&A | Molecular and Cell Biology”>New Freshmen Q&A | Molecular and Cell Biology;

Integrative biology major: none. <a href=“Freshman Admits to Cal | Integrative Biology”>http://ib.berkeley.edu/undergrad/major/freshman.php

History major: none. http://history.berkeley.edu/sites/default/files/History%20Major%20Handbook%202013%20to%202014.pdf

Other L&S majors: check the departmental web site.
