AP Credits

Does anyone know how AP credits work at Emory? The website says that you get 4 credit hours per exam. What does that mean?

4 credits hours is basically one class. However, you need a 4 or a 5 to "pass"...a 3 won't get you credit.

Do the AP tests (4 or 5) serve as prerequisites or as actual credits. In other words, if I come in with 6 tests (24 credits) will that be advanced standing or just bump me up to the next class in the series.

It depends.
1. Foreign language AP credit doesn't do you a whole lot of good as you still have to take a sequential class at Emory to satisfy the general education requirements (GERs) but then you receive 8 credits, I believe (so you only have to take one semester of language instead of two)
2. You can't get credit for both AP Language and Comp and AP Lit--just one or the other, but you receive 4 credits and are exempt from the freshman English requirement.
3. Other than foreign language, you get credits for everything, so it's quite easy to get advanced standing. Also, you will most likely exempt out of a lot of GERs.

Hope that helped.

also it helps coming in with a substantial amount of credits for picking classes earlier. for ex. if u come in with enough prob second semester frosh year ull have sophomore standing and pick ahead of all other freshman besides scholars
