AP credits

I’m from the U.S. and am considering accepting my offer from Arts. I’m wondering what the deal is with APs.

Firstly, I’ll have a 4 or a 5 in 8 total APs if I enroll – Bio, World History, U.S. Gov, Envi Sci, English Lang, English Lit, Stats, and Human Geo, and McGill’s website informs me that those sum up to 33 credits. However, the College Board’s website implies you can only get credit, but not advanced standing. Would I have to take the 100 level classes those APs equate to anyways, before I could get into my major’s upper-level classes? If so, what’s the point of APs? And if not, given that their B.A. is 30 credits a year, does that mean I would graduate in three years? I’ve heard you kind of get forced out the door if you’ve fulfilled all the requirements for your degree.

I appreciate any clarity people might be able to give me here.

I’ve seen that page (“McGill’s website informs me that those sum up to 33 credits”).

But it doesn’t answer any of my questions?

Idk what “advanced standing” you’re talking about but basically if you pass the AP exams AND the college that you want to go to accepts those AP exams then you are basically one year ahead in terms of credits. No, you don’t have to retake those classes. You can either graduate early or double major or do whatever you want.

@martblall it may mean that you come in with year 1 complete and basically have a 3 year program. I have a friend who’s son came into the business program and totally bypassed first year. Give them a call.

Yes. 120 credits required for a BA minus 30 credits through Advanced Placement equals a 90 credit/3 year degree program. What part of that do you not understand?
