Hello all :)

I've been accepted to SEAS and I was wondering about how my AP/DE credits will be counted. I intend to major in computer science, and I was looking through the department's handbook for major requirements. Will the DE/AP credits (which are mostly humanities with some sciences) be able to count towards the HSS elective requirements at all? Or will they all be counted towards unrestricted electives?

What did you get on them. I just visited and from what they told me SEAS is much less lenient about credit

I’ve gotten four 5s on AP and all As on my DE classes

You can get credit from Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. Probably more. But you can’t get out of the first year English class which is some special one about technology.

Even if you have credit for Chem and Physics, depending on your intended major w/i SEAS you may want to take either again to get a solid university foundation. It all depends on how complete your hs curriculum was. My son had credit for both Chem and Physics. He’s a mech e major and hated chem so he took that credit and never looked back, however decided to retake physics, knowing there was no way his hs teacher covered everything he needed.

You do have to take your labs at UVa even if you have credit. There is a work around if you saved your lab notebooks from hs. You can take them to be evaluated by a professor and if they are complete enough you get the credit waived (you do not get the credit). At some point before you graduate you will have to make up that lab credit in another area.

Will the e-school not take my humanities APs/DE as HSS electives or at least as unrestricted electives? I have U.S., Euro, Psych, and English Language for AP, and 2 years’ worth of English classes for DE (one for composition 111/112, the other for a sophomore-level British lit. class)

Here are some
