Hey,
I’ll be a junior next year and schedules must be decided by February. I was looking for a little input into class choice. I can take 7 classes, or 6 and a study hall. I’m having a little difficulty picking my last course. What I have so far;
AP Bio
Calc AB (AP)
AP Spanish lang
APUSH
AP Lang
Now, I can take a variety of courses for the last two (or a study hall and one)
Based on the difficulty level of the above courses, is AP Phys C EM and a study hall a better option than say AP Stats and AP comparative gov.
I’m open to discussion as to the courses but I’m not getting a great answer from older students as to difficulty level and I’d love to hear more opinions before submitting.
Thanks!!
AP physics C (either one, but especially E&M) may require too much calculus knowledge for a student who is only concurrently starting calculus AB. In college, calculus based physics E&M is typically take alongside or after calculus 3 (multivariable calculus), which is the course after calculus 2 or calculus BC.
You have a very challenging schedule. I would take a fun elective.
I wouldn’t recommend AP Physics C while taking Calc AB. Save it for next year, when you actually know some calculus (which you need for Physics C). Have you taken Honors Physics or AP Physics 1 or 2? if not, take that.
Anyway, you have 5 solid Ap’s already, which is one more than I’d recommend for a junior. So, my advice would be to NOT take further AP’s, choose an art class and a “fun” class instead. Culinary Arts will be useful your whole life, Theater Tech or Current Events can be fun, DECA also, etc.
You can’t answer this in a vacuum, class difficult/rigor is often a function of the teacher and/or your interest/knowledge in the subject area.
@vhsdad I agree with that. But, I do think that people can get a general idea of what they’re getting themselves into by signing up for the class. I have junior friends taking 6 APs and they want to die. I would stick with 5 and maybe even bump it down to 4 and take like an elective and an honors course. I am also a rising junior, so I do see where you’re coming from in terms of course rigor though.
