AP Dilemna

okay, so it’s not really a dilemna, but basically, here’s the situation: I’m taking the Physics B AP Test just to get out of our physics final (and be guaranteed an A for 2nd semester, B at the very lowest). However, I know that I have a next to zero chance of getting a 3 on it (not to mention that i’m engineering, so a 3 wont even count at Berkeley). Should I cancel my score directly afterwards? Basically, I’m asking if anybody important will ever see your AP scores after you graduate from high school, and if it’s worth cancelling the score, or just taking my probable 2…?

i think ap scores only matter for helping you get credits and such, i don't think they're ever going to be used against you later on...but i could be wrong

don't worry about it, even if you fail. they just rather you fail than not take the exam at all because it's like not taking the final of a class to them.

Physics B doesn't pass you out of anything at Cal. Relax.

yeah, but in short, is it worth cancelling the score? Will grad schools or anything like honors societies, etc. see my scores? Sorry, I probably sound like an idiot to some, but I just wanna know cuz the test is on monday.

ap scores wouldn't matter at that point...

you want to go into engineering and you can't handle a 3 on the physics exam? =0

I'm going to be majoring in chemistry. I aced my physics B AP class, but my teacher didn't really teach us anything. I think I'm going to fail that test too.

But, I would still take it because if you don't, then Cal will probably assume that you would have failed it anyway.

I think for college of engineering, you have to get a 5 on the AP Physics C mechanics to skip Physics 7A.

Don't think they'll see it if you dont send the scores.

So just try your best.

Just out of curiosity, If I have all 5's in 3 of the AP Physics tests, which Physics coure will I take first?

I posted this in a different thread, but I'll repeat here:

Berkeley accepts a score of 5 on the C (Mechanics) with one important caveat: If you plan on specifically majoring in Physics in L&S, the department will NOT let you skip intro mechanics, but encourage you to enroll in the honors version. If you major in anything else, most departments (including other sciences and the college of engineering) will accept a score of 5. But of course, verify this info with the specific departments that interest you.

The Physics B exam doesn't count at all. A score of 5 on Physics C (Mechanics ONLY) will get you out of Physics 7A (BUT only if you don't major in Physics!).

AP scores are only used for placement purposes and will never be used for anything else. One you have real college grades, no one will care how you did on some standardized test in high school. (Note though: I've heard it becoming increasingly common for employers asking for SAT scores, especially for things like investment banking, management consulting, ect.)

It's kinda weird, because MEchanics C is much easier than E&M. And They dont give credit for E&M ?
