AP Econ: To Take or Not To Take

This year I would be taking AP Econ except schedule conflicts wont allow it. The AP Econ teacher is also my math teacher and knows that I am a strong econ student. She has suggested that I self study (with her help) and take both the Micro and Macro exams. I think I will probably be able to get atleast 4s on both. At the colleges I'm looking at, I would need 5s on both to get any credit. The colleges I am applying to are also some of the best schools in econ and would teach me more in Econ 101 than AP Econ as a class. I would love to study econ, but I'm wondering if it is worth while for me to study exclusivly for the exam (I view an AP class and studying for the exam as differnt things because the class is a whole experience while studying for an exam is like the SATs) or should I just take econ starting in college?

I guess what I'm wondering is if it is worth it to take the exam, when I doubt that I will use the credit?

Economics is pretty east, especially if you're good at math and other logical stuff. I promise you, I learned nothing in my Econ class (which ended in December), and I self studied this past May. I was taking 4 other exams, and I still managed to teach the subject to myself well enough to get a 5. I'm not even that good of a student, so that should give you a clue.

And just a question, what school are you planning on attending? I'm minoring in Economics, and I think it would be really cool to find some other schools with good programs and work with them in conjunction with my own! (I go to Georgia Tech.)
