hey, im trying to start an AP econ class at my school. all is going well except im facing some issues with the school standards.

i want the class to be one semester long, and be micro econ AP, not macro econ.

however, the problem with our school board is that they dont think that 1 semester of econ AP will fit all of our state standards for econ. and even then, if we do fit it into 1 semester, it would have to be first semester, which means we will have 4 months to forget all the material before the AP test. because of these factors, they have decided to make it a year long course, AP micro/AP micro, 1 each semester.

my question to you is, how is AP econ run at your school? is it 1 semester, or year long? ap micro or macro? if its 1 semester, do u feel that u are still well prepared for the Ap test? thanks!

Just out of curiosity, why would it have to be first semester?

We have an econ class at my school that is AP but everybody who takes it takes the AP macro and micro and easily gets a 5.

I was going to suggest that the AP Econ class be a year long, covering both macro and micro, but it seems that they are already on it.

Is AP Econ a lot of math? Or is it still focusing on the history side of things? If it's just another math class (like physics) I'm not sure I want to take it, but if it's not, I'm considering it for senior year.

As far as I know, it requires virtually no math. It's more like supply and demand, things of that nature, markets (micro) and income, inflation, unemployment (macro).

AP Econ at our school is a year-long course (we cover both macro/micro).

AP Econ involves VERY little math. It mostly focuses on thinking logically (what happens if the cost of resources increases? the supply will decrease due to increased production costs).

The hardest math in AP Econ is calculating slope. Our AP Econ class is on a block schedule, 2 quarters in the fall, 1 for macro and 1 for micro.

Oh and don't worry about forgetting. Microecon is probably the easiest AP test out there. I reviewed macro AND micro in an hour and remembered nearly everything I needed.

Our school has Macro for one semester and Political Science for the other. I took it first semester, and I feel that I'll do well on the AP exam even without a lot of studying. Once you learn econ, it's hard to forget it completely.

At my school, it's AP Government one semester, and AP Econ is the second. It's really all Macro--only the people who want to self-study Micro take that AP Exam. nod

I had AP Econ first semester and I hated it in the first place, so it's harder for me to remember things. But we covered all the topics first semester for Macro. I'll find out on Thursday whether or not a semester is enough. ;)

My HS runs econ as a two-semester optional course. The first is macro, second is micro. If you just want the graduation econ requirement, most people just take the first semester and not the AP, other people only take second semester for the AP, others take both semesters and both APs. But you can register for either semester.
