AP Economics? Is it hard?

Considering taking this class next year since there’s no honors, but I’ve never taken an AP class before.

Would AP Economics be hard for me in this case? Math is my strong point so I imagine I’d do better in this class then say AP Gov

Also to add, this potentially might be my only AP class next year (because honestly I don’t know how i could do more than two without probably flinging myself off the stairs since my friends who take AP classes want to do it)

What grade are you in? What classes have you taken and how well did you do in them?
The difficulty of an AP class depends a lot on the school and on the teacher. You should ask your classmates about the class and the workload and maybe ask your current teachers about the path they’d recommend.

AP Econ is considered an easy AP at my school and in general, but you might want to talk to the Econ teacher and your current social studies teacher to see if they think you could do it. Also keep in mind the grade you want in the class when you talk to them. The math in AP Econ is not challenging- someone in Algebra 2 or higher would have no problem with it whatsoever. I would say go for it if you’re willing to put in the work.

What type of economics is it? I would say the general consensus is that macroeconomics is easier than microeconomics, but it really depends on the person. It would also depend on the school and the teacher.
For what it’s worth, I’m in AP Microeconomics and I don’t find it very challenging. The math is not at all difficult.
Of course, it really comes down to the person. I’ve come across people who said it was one of the easiest classes that they took in high school, and I’ve also come across people who really struggled with it. They all had the exact same teacher, the exact same course work, etc.

I tried AP Econ online but I decided too drop it because I figured it wasn’t for me because it involves some math which I wasn’t comfortable with. In addition, the textbook was very “conservatively” biased.

Tbh it depends person to person. If you are somewhat comfortable with math and interested in Economics it can be a moderately rewarding class.
Some of my friends struggle with it but personally, I think it’s very manageable.

Oh gosh I’m sorry for late reply

But currently in 11th! But just all the main classes ur required to take that I’m a bit too lazy to list; honestly other than like freaking geometry my grades were/are usually high 90’s
And hmm I’ll keep that in mind, not sure if I know any seniors that are taking AP economics tho

^^^^ @IAmNotCreativ bc im a dummy that is tired

@Studious99 hmmm okay thanks!

@gonewiththeair well it doesn’t say what it is, but i’m guessing it’s macro bc it says on the sheet that ur gonna be taking macroeconomic ap test if you take the class

but ohhh i see. hmm well I have time to think about it

@Swag87 huh really; well if I do decide do take the class I could always drop it if I’m dissatisfied lol

@Coldsummer123 hmmm well I’m pretty confident in math but I guess I’m getting the vibe from everyone that it’s different for every person. I guess I have lots of thinking to do lol

@Swag87 conservatively biased? What do you mean?

Hey there @spalis! I took AP macro econ my sophomore year. I found the homework to be very manageable even though math is not my favorite subject. You need to be able to understand somewhat complicated graphs and to do pretty elementary calculations. I don’t think the math ever exceeded pre-algebra concepts. With that said, it is one of the easier APs with respect to math. However, you will need to memorize many graphs and understand how to apply them in different circumstances. That is where the homework, and particularly the AP test becomes more challenging. I ended up with an A in the class and a 4 on the exam.

It was, quite simply, the easiest class I have ever taken in my life.

Although, like all classes, it depends on the school and the teacher.

As someone who just finished it three days ago…

It honestly isn’t that hard. Got a 90 without the 10 points. I think it really depends on the teacher and how he or she will test you. My teacher kinda tested really hard and the class average was in the 70s for most tests, except the first. I think if you apply yourself and study, you’ll do fine.

Maybe you should consider your interests and possible career choices to make the decision.
