Hi, I’m a senior and am currently deciding between taking either AP Economics or AP Environmental Science. I cannot handle doing both at the same time. Based on any prior experiences and knowledge, which would you recommend I take? Which is less time consuming to do well in? Thanks for the help.
They are fairly equal in difficulty. It all depends on which teacher is better, what topic interests you more, and which teacher has a better pass rate.
For me, Economics is easier because I don’t prefer taking ecological science classes.
Thanks for the input. Frankly I feel that I don’t really have a knack for either course, but I would say I’m slightly worse Econ than Enviro. The AP Econ teacher might be better than the AP Enviro teacher, though.
Any more opinions?
It also depends on what you want to major in out of high school. If it’s science-related, AP Enviro is the way to go, if it’s business-related, AP Econ is the obvious choice. However you might not know what you want to do, in that case, simply choose the one that you are interested in and/or with the better teacher, but you did say it was fairly equal in those aspects. Since there are no differences on which one you choose, you could just sign up for the one that your friends are doing, but this should be a last resort.
Thanks for the advice. I’m just mainly concerned about workload, are they fairly equal in that regard as well? (in general) I know it changes from teacher to teacher.
Obviously, try to make sure that, regardless of which you choose, you are taking a science and history course. For example, if without economics and environmental you are taking no science, but are taking a history course (say US gov), environmental would be your priority to take.
I would also look at the colleges you are interested in and see if you can get credit for APES.
Some do, some don’t, but all give credit for AP Economics (depending on test score, of course)
Like others say, see if it fills a requirement or just a general elective.
I woudl say Economics, myself.
You need to have one each of English, Math, Science, Social Science, Foreign Language.
If you have all five regardless, choose the best teacher.
Thanks for all the suggestions. After reading the posts I’m leaning toward Economics since I still have Physics in my courses as a science. I would have a free period if I dropped APES, is that alright?
Yes.
