<p>Okay, I have two questions :)</p>
<li>(Please, some current student answer this soon!) For the English Lang and Eng. Lit APs, it says see page 72 of first year book. Now, I know that it’s some exemption from Writing 5 or whatnot, but can someone tell me if I have a 5 on EngLang already, if the Lit will be entirely useless, even if I get a 5 on it? (And also, I know there’s some SAT verbal requirement to go along with that, what exactly is the cutoff? I’ve heard 760 or 790.)</li>

<p>The second part to the first question, if a current student has said First Year book, can they somehow scan it for me?! I’m trying to get a refund for Eng Lit from my school, and they need “proof” that the school doesn’t accept the credit. And it’d be great if I could get this before… tonight, since Eng Lit is tomorrow. (Eek, I sound demanding, but hey it’s a good sum of money). The counselor office secretary is an a-hole and told me I should have “researched more thoroughly”. Except the deadline was before I even heard back from ANY college (she only thinks in terms of state schools, since that’s where most of the kids she manages go). I ask a day or two in advance, but she gives a refund immediately to a kid going to a state school even though his test is on the same day…</p>
<li>Can someone tell me about the format of the placement tests? Specifically for the languages, Spanish or Chinese. Are they like the AP test with the listening, speaking, writing, in addition to the MC?</li>

<p>2) you can AP out of the language requirement with a 4 or 5, or take the SAT Subject Test - a 690 or higher is required to fulfill the language requirement. Placement tests are also offered during orientation.</p>

<p>Thanks for the info on the foreign language requirement blue, but info on the English/Writing reguirement would be great. I'm in the same boat, with 5 on Englang from last year, and the lit test is tomorrow. I would look at page 72 in my first book, but I haven't gotten one yet. :-| Please help anyone. It'd be awesome if I didn't have to take Writing 5.</p>

<p>Sorry, don't have access to First Year book either. However, it almost has to be a 5 on either English test since most high schools do not offer both English APs. Depending on your time zone, you could always call them tomorrow. Good luck.</p>
<p>According to the link below, under today's policy, you can place out of Writ 5 with a SAT CR of 780, or an AP-5 and a 700 (see bottom of link).</p>

<p>no problem, but bear in mind I'm a newbie parent, so my thinking could be off 180 degrees. Nevertheless, take the Lit test anyway; it builds character. :)</p>
<p>Lol, if character means writing fluffy essays, sure. EngLit is the only AP exam that I feel particularly confident about, but I'd still like to get that refund if I can :)</p>
<p>bluebayou, I already know that you can place out of languages with such scores, and that placement exams are offered during orientation week. I was asking about the specific format of the tests. Just MC, or does it include speaking/writing/listening sections too?</p>
<p>Kujo - I believe that it is a 5 on either, and a high verbal/CR score - how high is not always specified. They want to eliminate the English 5 exemption altogether and require at least 2 terms of writing for everyone, but that has not come to pass yet - don't know if it will make it this year, but I don't think so.</p>
<p>Although it is possible/probable that it will change for '10s, I'm pretty sure the requirement last year was that to be exempt you had to have either a 790 on the SAT Verbal or a 720 on the Verbal and a 5 on either of the english tests.</p>
<p>The verbal score is a moving target each year.</p>
