AP English 3 (Composition and Language)

Hi, I'm not sure this is the right section but its the closest one to the question I have. So here goes.

Well I'm a sophmore now and I'm debating over what AP's to take. I'm probably gonna end up taking AP Chem, US and English 3. I have an A in English right now, but also its a very easy class. My teacher said we are going to have an In-Class essay this friday and it will determine wether we get into AP or not.

From what I've been told and heard AP English 3 is not on literature but more on the English language. My question is, what are essays in AP English 3 usually on? My teacher said it would be a topic debating the meaning of two words or something close to that. My question is, how should I write/prepare for it? Should I write the essay with a thesis and then 3 main connecting points or is there some other structure I should use for the class? Any help or guide to the class is welcome.

Thanks

go to collegeboard, students, ap, english language, sample tests, and you can see the past prompts for free

I usually use that format, but I'm not tied to it. In class you'll read a lot of essays from famous writers/politicians and examine their rhetorical merits--you'll learn about fallacies and successful techniques for writing persuasively. It's a great class--I love it.

Or if you go to my school...
you will learn absolutely nothing.

Same as mine lablondie.
But to the OP, I have never heard of such a thing as a Lang essay "debating the meaning of two words". They're generally essays analyzing rhetorical startegies, which I guess y'all wouldn't know about. Or arguments where you pick a side and argue it. I hated this class. i sucked at the mc and picking out strategies. Haha it was fun times though.
