AP English credit for LSA

I received a 4 in AP English Language, but what does it mean on the AP credit guidelines for UofM (Office of Undergraduate Admissions: AP Guidelines) when the score "Does not satisfy the English Composition or distribution requirements in English." Do I still need to take an english course? If so, what does the AP credit do for me? It has the same asterisk for AP lit, should I not take that exam next year since it won't help me?

“Advanced Placement credit counts toward the semester hours needed for graduation as well as prerequisite requirements; however, it does not fulfill Area Distribution requirements for the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) students.” - Office of Undergraduate Admissions

–

So it counts towards total hours/prereqs but you still have to take certain classes in certain areas in order to get your degree… if that made any sense.

You must take a freshman writing class no matter what your AP score is. You can still get credit for your AP score, but cannot get out of the writing requirements using them.

Exactly, I wouldn’t advise high school students to take that AP exam.

okay, so it still counts for general credit. if that’s the case, ap lit will just be another opportunity to earn more credit - even if it doesn’t get me out of a required class.

why don’t you advise it, blackpen? won’t it allow me to earn my degree quicker?

^
the answer is no, it actually won’t
