I already received AP credit for English language and composition last year (4), which got me out of ENGL101, and I was wondering what will happen with my AP English Lit. score. I got a 4 on the exam and am wondering if i will just receive credit for ENGL240 (3 credits) or if I will get that plus an elective (6 credits) as is stated on the website. It appears as though I would get the 6 credits, but was unsure if they would give full credit for both AP English exams.

Sorry a little off topic, but when did you receive your AP Lit score. I havent received mine yet, and was wondering if there was a problem.

For the two English exams, you’ll get a total of 9 credits…ENGL101, ENGL240, and one additional LL credit.

mr09, the AP phone service ($8 for all your grades) was updated today.

In the past, the AP scores showed up on the “unofficial transcript” on Testudo before the mailed scores were received, though… You should make sure in a couple of weeks that you’ve gotten the AP credit you expected.

Thank you astrophysicsmom!

getting out of english 101 is great. I found it was one of the hardest class to get an A, there was only 1 person in the entire class had an A when I took it many years ago.

Thanks astrophysicsmom! I will look on Testudo today.

One more question - will my AP mark only show up on Testudo if I score high enough to receive the English credit? Or will my mark appear regardless

This year’s scores are not up yet on Testudo.

Wow chaoses, that’s actually really surprising. I’d think that a class like English 101 would be easy to get an A in.

mr09…when the scores are updated on Testudo, it will be at the top of your transcript, with transfer credits. This is the entry for a “5”…3 credits, and meets FE core requirement…(this is from last year’s AP scores)…

Advanced Placement
0801DENG LANG/COMP/SCR 5 P 3.00 ENGL101 FE

Thank you again, astrophysicsmom. You have been so helpful!!

PS - I hope I get the “5” as well!!!

Hope so!!!

fyi Elblufer…just looked at older D’s transcript. For the line for English Lit, it shows hours of credit as 6.0 with ENGL240 listed as the class equivalency.

Gotta love those AP credits. You’ll appreciate it when it comes time to register for classes. Registration dates/times are assigned in priority based on your total hours (not just the UMD hours). Older D came to UMD with a ridiculous amount of AP credit (58 hours)…She registered almost 3 weeks before a friend who was also going to be a junior for fall, 2009. (who didn’t have AP credits).

wow, that’s impressive! I’m going in with 26 credits, so not nearly as impressive, but still helpful.

I tested out of ENGL101 and ENGL240.
Does anyone know if I’d be allowed to take ENGL294 Introduction To Creative Writing as a first semester freshman with nine credits? (I got a 5 on English Lang and 4 on English Lit, I might get some more credits in different areas for courses taken through another university, but I don’t know how many.) If not, does anyone know what I can take?
I’m a bio major, but very interested in creative writing, to the point that I might pick up an English major (Unless there’s a more writing-centric major that I’m not aware of. Or I can do the create your own major as a double major)

Gina…you can look on Testudo “Schedule of Classes” and see everything that’s being offered for Fall, 2009. They will list prerequisites here (or on description of classes).
You should spend some time looking at it before you go to registration…it makes it all much less confusing.

Currently, ENGL294 shows that all 3 sections are full; you can put yourself on a waitlist, but I don’t know whether you’re likely to get off the waitlist or not. There is a poetry workshop (3 credit hours) that currently shows open seats.

I didn’t see any prerequisites for that class, but it seemed like there should be, so that’s why I asked.
Don’t they generally open more sections up with each orientation? Or does that not work for a 200 class because they are primarily sophomore classes?

You’re right. Seems like ENG101 would at least be required before taking someone into Creative Writing! Don’t know about 200-level classes being added. Mostly it’s the freshman classes (and CORE classes) that they open up, but there’s no harm in putting yourself on the waitlist. There are xxxx### classes that have a “U” suffix on the course title (unfortunately, your creative writing class doesn’t). Anyway, it appears these are held for majors to get into the class. D is an Environmental Science/Policy major and was concerned before she went to orientation that the first required class, ENSP101, had no open seats. Her advisor put her into the ENSP101U course.

The scores and equivalencies are up on testudo now. If you go to unofficial transcript it has them listed.
