AP ENGlish, hard or easy?

Is the test hard or e asy? I heard the curve was pretty harsh.

I've heard the same. For lit at least I've heard the poetry is very difficult (not english lang. at my school)

AP English Language was a killer class, but I got a five on the test so it couldn't have been that bad. I'm taking AP English Lit this year; I have no idea how that'll go down.

AP English is definitely easy, especially in comparison to AP Chemistry or AP Physics.

AP Language is somewhat easier than AP literature.

anyone kno the curve?

AP Language better be easy, because my school is forcing all juniors to take that class. Bastards...

Hey, easy on the language, buddy. That said, I highly sympathize. But they can't make you take the test, can they? That costs $.

AP Language RULED! It was my favorite class, EVER. We basically spent 3/4 of the year writing the most fun essays ever, and spent about a month and a half doing prep for the exam. The test itself is not all that hard. I only skipped 2 out of 80 MC questions - they were pretty easy, but then I got lazy; I only spent a total of an hour and 10 minutes on the three essays (you get 2 hours), took a nap for the rest of the test, and got a 4.

I'm taking AP Lit this year, and I doubt it'll be as fun.

I thought AP Lit was easier than AP Lang; grade distributions show a higher percentage of 5s for Lit than for Lang. I remember having to study and work for my 5 in Lang; when I took Lit, I didn't care and basically relied on the training I had the previous year; was expecting a 3/4 but still ended up with a 5 on Lit.

Can anybody suggest some good books for AP Lang?

tkm256: Nope, you can choose whether you want to take the test or not. But it's kinda weird, this is the first year they ever do that and remember, ALL juniors are taking the classes... there will be people who are good at writing research paper... and people who are STILL having hard time on writing a thesis statement.

I've never taken AP lang, but I had trouble with AP lit. The multiple choice is almost like a couple of steps up in difficulty from the SAT critical reading, but the free response questions all require you to identify literary devices and then show their greater significance for the passage. Basically, why did the author/poet use that literary device? Although the teacher tried to explain how to do this several times, I'm not quite sure I ever got the hang of it.

But, NorthWestLover, remember that AP Lang isn't about research papers. It's about all types of writing - narrative, description, process, definition, argument, classification/division, cause/effect.

It's a whole different playing field. I've seen people who suck at research papers turn out great stories (descriptions, etc.), and get 5's on the exam.

anyone know the curves? And the score distributions? What prep books would you recommend?

The curve for Lang is pretty tough. For a 5, you need around 105-112 points out of 150 total. However, the test itself is pretty easy, so it's not all that difficult to make a 5 if you're a good reader and writer.

I think Lang has harder MC but easier essays than Lit.

I see. Well, whining is not going to do anything, so I guess I'm going to deal with it. In fact, it would be great to see a "ghetto" public school requiring all juniors to take AP Lang class... that's kind of revolutionary.

Be happy, NorthWestLover, at least you can take AP Lang your junior year. At my school the only AP English you can take is Lit during your senior year.

Oiram, that is the same way at my school. Well, ihateschool007, any AP class is hard im it's own way. Who can say that taking college classes in high school is easy? No one I know of can say that statement....

yes but there are ap tests relatively easier than others. What prep books did you guys use?
