I was assigned to read 2 of the following books as summer reading. Please let me know what you think of them and which would be your first choice. thanks

We:Yevgeny Zamyatin
A Handmaid's Tale:Margaret Atwood
Oryx and Crake: Margaret Atwood
1984 : George Orwell
A clockwork Orange : Anthony Burgess
Fahrenheit 451 : Ray Bradbury
Player Piano : Kurt Vonnegut

I recommend both Margaret Atwood books. (Fan here, as you can probably tell.) Although reading one is probably enough for summer reading. (I liked Oryx and Crake better, but The Handmaid's Tale is much better known and respected.)

then i would choose between A Clockwork Orange and Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 is by bradbury so it has his style, the deep characterization, futuristic vision, etc. A better book imo than clockwork

Clockwork is by burgess so its harsh, violent, messed up dialogue and plot, but it probably has a better plot than 451, but i hated the style. The one reason to read this book is because of the film, which is insanely good. If ur a movie fan, read the book and then watch the movie (or vice versa)

Don't read 1984 OR Fahrenheit 451. F451 is like 8th grade reading, 1984 is great but you'll read it again in your school career for sure. Plus, 1984 and F451 are too similar.

Vonnegut is so easy to read, so much fun. We may be a challenge but will be the most fulfilling book on the list.

Well, Almost all the books on the list will probably be good. My advice would be to take some time to look at the summaries of the books and pick the ones that look the best to you on the list.

1984 : George Orwell
A clockwork Orange : Anthony Burgess
A Handmaid's Tale:Margaret Atwood

Pick between these three.
A Clockwork Orange is strange and mildly disturbing, which is actually why I like it. It's extremely good for essays, too, come to think of it. The style is a bit hard to read sometimes, though, because Burgess came up with his own slang, so be prepared to take a little extra time with it.
1984 is also a slightly disturbing book, but for a different reason. It's a classic and is always good to have read, so I'd suggest it for that reason.
I've been told good things about that last book, but I haven't actually read it. shrug
