They don’t even offer the class in my school. My AP test is in four weeks and i’m kinda clueless. For everyone who has done many/some/any practice tests, how do y’all do the MC question (there’s always at least one) that goes:
example-
The passage contains all of the following EXCEPT:
a. alliteration
b. complex sentences with clarifying causes
c. revolting gustatory imagery
d. metaphor
e. historical allusion
I find these questions to be the hardest of them all, because I have to reread the whole freaking passage and it takes forever, and a lot of the time I don’t even know what some of the options are. Like what is B?! And what if I can’t find more than one?
Any tips, in general or for this specific type of question?
Thanks, guys. Good luck
Well, from what I learned… I personally cannot annotate the passage because I overthink and significantly decrease my score, but maybe try that. AP Slang is something else, a new degree of critical thinking. You should be able to read the passage and notice the rhetoric techniques and such. Alliteration can be anything as simple as “unusual underwear,” just as long as the first two letters of the words match. For B, the key is complex sentences (which honestly most passages would have since they’re all analytical or critical. A complex is an independent and dependent clause, right? So “I am sad, but not mad.” Metaphor is just a comparison without “like” or “as.” Historical allusion should be obvious but it can even reference something as minuscule as… Can’t think of an example. C I’m not too sure, but it’s revolting imagery. Key word is imagery, or something that paints a picture in your mind.
