I am in the class and it seems that the MC section is extremely difficult because it is so specific and contains complex vocabulary. The essays seem challenging as well. Is there a study guide book that I can use to help me obtain my goal?

And why does nobody ever mention this AP test? People are constantly worrying about AP Biology, APUSH, AP Chemistry, basically every AP except this one.

if you are good at essays (which i am NOT :)) then write GREAT essays.

if you are good at MC (and by good, i mean that you get more than 85% of your MC right), then your MC scores, along with mediocre essays, will at least get you a 4 (like me).

basically, you have 2 choices. either do GREAT in 1 section, or do mediocre in both. either way, i wouldnt be surprised if you get a 4 or 5. as for a specific prep book.....well i never used one, so i have no idea. sorry.

Get a list of common AP-level literary terms and devices from your teacher. If they're worth the extra money they get for teaching AP, they should have one. Memorize that list. Not just study, MEMORIZE.

Essays, practice one-on-one with your teacher if possible. One of your main focuses should be thesis, as in knowing how to write a good one. If you write a good thesis, it will not only show the reader(s) that you know how to write well, but will also serve as a guide for you about how to format the rest of your essay. Your thesis says you will talk about X and Y. You then write one paragraph about topic X, and another about Y. It's that simple.

Oh, and realize that you don't have to follow the five paragraph format. If you only need four, only write four. Don't try to write an extra paragraph of fluff. It will look very bad and they WILL mark you down. My teachers have shown me enough rubrics from past essays to know that writing to that format, they can and will mark you down. Five essays can use the format, but only if the meat of the essay is good.

i got a 5. its natural ability at this point, you cant make yourself a better writer and the MC is interpretive skills and reading comprehension really.. just know how to read.

Actually, I think you can become a better writer/reader in the time between now and May.

Read a lot of prose (essays, documents, etc.) as well as novels, write a lot of essays, expand your vocabulary. Basically everything you should have been doing since the 5th grade, at an accelerated rate.
