With everyone saying they did really well on the Synthesis (which I found difficult) and found the Argumentation (the one I pretty much went on political rampage with) the difficult one, I think I screwed up somewhere.

I’M SCREWED!

Question: is there a conversion chart/does anyone know how they grade the exam? Since they changed the rules where you dont lost points for incorrect answers, I’m hoping to get at least a 3-4 on the MC. Though, I don’t know what the normal range for that is. If someone could help me get an idea of how I did that’d be great…

figgynewton-- I totally went on a political rampage too haha. I’m a little scared I may have come off too passionate…?

mc were pretty easy, but I had some trouble with the third passage.

Would I get a lower essay grade for the last FRQ because I used gay marriage as an example for one of my thesis points? I articulated well but I remember my teacher saying something about not bringing in hot button issues or your own opinion

MC was SO FREAKING EASY. But I completely bombed the essays so it doesn’t even matter.

I was surprisingly comfortable with the MC - that’s usually the worst part for me. I feel great about each essay and I had plenty of time at the end to go back and proofread.

Last year in one of my classes, I had this teacher who was obsessed with the locavore movement and talked about it like every day. XD.

Everything else was okay; the MC was decent and the other two essays were alright…I thought the passage one was alright and the last one was easy except I ran out of time so it wasn’t my best work…

I started to run out of time and wasn’t able to get to the last couple of questions. Since there’s no point deduction, does anyone know how many can be missed to be in that 3/4/5 range for the mc?

Can you guys tell me how you managed to read through the four passages and answer all of the questions (as in, not just bubbling them in randomly) in one hour? I freaking struggled to read through the last two passages, the third in particular, because the syntax was freaking complex for me.

Maybe I just didn’t do that good because I’m a math/science person. Hehe.

You don’t read the entire passage, that’s a waste of time. You refer to the lines necessary for each question, and if there is a general comprehension one, skip it and go back when you already have a good idea of what the passage is about.

Never read the entire passage. Your teacher should have told you that

I’m just curious to see how hard these readers grade the essays, knowing that you had to write so much in 2 hours only ( my teacher advised me to write 5 paragraphs, has worked in the past with other students).

@pch340: And you’ve had success with this technique on practice tests and such (those at the same level as the actual exam)? Interesting… because while many of the questions refer to specific lines, they almost always mention “In context, what does ___ imply.” and there’s always often a choice that would work (out of context), and then the correct choice. The context can definitely change the meaning of a selected sentence, word, or even paragraph.

I’m horrible at English, so I found the test reasonably difficult. The multiple choice was easier than the practice tests we did in class, but there was still one passage that I found difficult to understand (the others were easier, though). Regarding the essays, I was not expecting the synthesis at all and spent maybe too much time on. Fortunately, the analysis was relatively straightforward, and the argumentative I had an idea in my head of what to write about, so I just rushed through both of them with like 20 minutes each, lol.

pch340, I always read the entire passage…and I still had time to read all the passages (just enough in fact). Skimming/referring to the line applicable to the question doesn’t really help me understand the question. But then again, everyone’s different I spent way too much time on passage 3 (haaaaaaaaaard) but the multiple choice questions weren’t too bad. My synthesis essay was pretty good, enough to get me a 7. My analysis (I wish it was longer :/) probably got me a 7 or 8…and (surprisingly because persuasive essays are my weak points) I think I got a definite 9 on my persuasive essay (though who knows). Not too bad. I think I have a good chance of a 5, but if I get a 4 no big deal–credit is credit

What?? lol im sorry. my brain is dead after the long test today…

I found a current grading scale for the AP test, up to date for the most part: <a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board;

Only thing is on ours we had 54 questions… Would the number we have to multiply it by significantly increase/decrease in any way?

^^^

Our teacher gave us that sheet and told us to change the number to 1.250 (I believe) I think this is right

alright so procedure is the same just change the MC score to 1.250?

I believe, that’s what my teacher told us at least.

I think I’m all set with the essay. The thing that is bugging me is the multiple choice. I tried reading as critically as I could, and I think I did well on the first couple passages for the most part. But on the last passage, I was getting really worried about time. The airhead proctor wasn’t telling us the time, and I just couldn’t focus. I ended up having to guess with C on most of the last passage. If I wrote reasonably well essays, how possible is it to get a 4? I sort of feel obliged to get a 4 because the class before me had a lot of people that I know I’m smarter than, and they got 4s.

My concern is just how difficult they grade the essays… Students who took it last year at my school said its nothing compared to how my teacher grades it. Still, my overall essay isnt the greatest either since I didnt have much time to think my thoughts through.
