I like to write the essay based on how the passage progresses, and make comments for individual sections.

I love how CC forums are most frequented the night before APs. Good luck everyone!

Ahh, please… does anyone have the 1996 questions or the Audit?? I really need some MC questions!

Please!!!

38/54 (Raw 34) on PR Practice Test 1
40/54 (Raw 36.5) on PR Practice Test 2
Generally 5-7 on all the essays
Hopefully I’ll be able to get a 4, maybe a 5 if I can crank out some good essays. Good luck tomorrow everyone!

Wow…I have my work cut out for me. My MC score (31 R, 13 W) for my practice test puts me on the essay borderline…I need at least two 7’s and a 6 to be in the “safe zone” for a 4. Two 6’s and a 7 puts me RIGHT on the 4 line.

I have never written an AP Eng Lang essay…

There’s gonna be 1 synthesis, 1 rhetorical, and a third essay that’s either another rhetorical or an argument of some kind, right?

-sigh- The synthesis shouldn’t be bad, but me + rhetorical strategies = takes to much time

EDIT: How are Barron’s practice AP Eng Lang tests compared to the real thing?

Can anyone quickly summarize how you are supposed to write the 3 essays? Cause I haven’t really done any…
So synthesis is just writing about several prompts you are given, and talking about what they are about?
Rhetorical is analyzing the authors’ styles of writing?
Argumentative is just a persuasion essay?

synthesis is using and integrating the sources to support your position.

Rhetorical is analyzing literary devices and strategies used by the author that contributes to his overall message

Argument is either defending, challenging or qualifying a given prompt using real life examples taken from literature, history, personal life etc… - sorta like the SAT essay but not as formulaic.

so synthesis is like a DBQ? doesn’t sound too hard.
rhetorical sounds hard. but sounds bs’able.

Can someone repost a conclusive grading table with conversions and all that fancy stuff? Thanks.

How much harder is Barron’s compared to the real thing? .___.

Rhetorical cannot be b’sed because you need to know the specific devices to analyze the attitude of the author and the how he is potraying those ideas.

anyone know if it is critical to have 5 paragraph essays? I usually only do 4 paragraphs, (with 2 body paras).

Any ideas? 4 or 5? does it really matter?

“Can someone repost a conclusive grading table with conversions and all that fancy stuff? Thanks.”

I second this request.

When you are writing the rhetorical essay and cannot identify any one of the author’s strategies, use :

DIDLS

D: iction
I: magery
D: etails
L: anguage
S: yntax

4 should be fine. The essays are not graded on format or structure. As long as you support your position and provide clear, accurate, and complex language and ideas, you are good.

Remember what AP wants to see the most from you is that you can THINK. So form your arguments and back them up with logical evidence. The more that you show that you know about the whole issue, the better off you are.

I found the MCs on '96, '01, and '07 as well as the other CB produced tests to be much easier than Cliffs, REA, Barrons, Petersons, etc… They seem to be better field tested so that even the hard questions are not some test writer’s debatable opinion. Good Luck

I need to make sure I answer the question being asked. I just know I’m going to get lost somewhere…

I’ve been cramming rhetorical devices into my head for the past week. Tomorrow is going to suck miserably…

Hm…I know I’m being redundant, but if I got 31 right on a Barron’s practice, what should I expect on the real thing?

Anyone else having alot of problems with the MC?

Well I did terrible on Barrons, like 25 right or something. But on all of the passage excerpts and stuff from previous tests that we’ve done in class I usually do a bit better.

I’d assume they’re harder

I tried Cliffs and got around 33, I hope I can get a 4 with the support of my essays.
