AP English Language Exam Thread

So what order are the essays in?

Synthesis

Rhetorical Analysis

Open Ended

is that right?

Synthesis

Rhetorical Analysis

Argumentative

you can do essay in any order

how does the extra 15 minutes for the synthesis work? Like, do they give you everything but just not the paper to write on until the 15 min are up or something?

to my knowledge, the 15 minute reading period is exactly like it is on the history tests. so you have the answer booklet but you’re not allowed to open it/begin writing until after the 15 minutes is up.

my question: so i am completely screwed for the MC, as my teacher has not given us any mock exams or even any sort of practice material. compared to the SAT CR questions, how are the MC? i would assume they’re more difficult but as far as the type of questions being asked, how do they compare?

I’m really looking forward to this test, since it’s the only one I dont have to study for :)

Not that I’ll do really well but I mean, not much you can cram the night before except for some literary terms or whatever. I reallllllyyy like that haha.

globe trotter: they’re a bit harder and different I’d say. From the practice tests I’ve taken I’d say they’re less main idea based more technical based. They’ll ask about allusions, rhetorical strategies (fallacies, appositives, all that junk), diction, tone, and some more.

I’d recommend going out and getting a study guide with practice tests so you can get a feel for it and not go in blind

i took this course for half a year and then transfered schools. Do you think its okay that I havent done ANY preparation? Multiple Choice is my strong point! but i have never written a synthesis essay

i also took the lit a couple of days ago, and thought it wasn’t THAT bad

@PBABY if you have taken APeuro or APUSH, the synthesis essay is an easier version of the DBQ, since you’re more likely to have outside information on the prompt.

Im really bad at the MC part. any tips? im generally bad with CR-- so if you guys have any tips to help me out that’d be great. thanks!

I say good luck to everyone on this exam! I took it last year and got a 4. In order to prepare, I kept practicing MC questions, and I reviewed literary terms. :)

I’ve consistently been scoring a 7 on all the essays I have been taking in class this year. But I don’t think they’re that good. My essays are always filled with awkward wording and my synthesis essays are so disorganized! But my points are very good.

If by some miracle I do get 7’s on all my essays what do I need to get on the MC to get a 5?

I desperately want a 5 since I don’t think I got 5’s on my other ap tests this yr :(

I’m so scared. I get like 4’s on all my class essays, except for the synthesis ones where I get 2’s and one time even a “-.”

I’m just gonna study the literary device terms… and hope it carries me to atleast a 3…

Is it certain that there will be a synthesis essay on the AP Exam?

Just took the audit test, and got 44/54… 5 Range?

can anybody help??

what is it that i have to do to do well with the MC section?

Man, I have probs with MC too, and I don’t think there’s anyway to prepare except taking practice tests. Well, I’ve improved by about 10 questions for the past month.

I’ve been going to those FR practice sessions because he made us to go. I’m afraid that I gonna blank out on the FR or make silly grammar mistakes and write with a crude style.

Yeah I loathe the MC also…

did anyone do the PR practice tests? How are those compared to there real ones? I just took it and completely bombed it

PR review is always easier I think. What about Barron do you think? I keep getting around 30 on the Barron’s :(
