I took the AP English Language Exam last week and completely bombed the essay section.

When I say bombed, I mean I don't think I received higher than a 3 on any of the 3 essays (each essay scored out of 9). I had the worst writer's block, I couldn't think straight, and I think I misread one of the prompts. It was terrible. I'm so heart broken, haha. Really.

I generally get between 70-90% on the multiple choice section of the AP English exam.

I had initially been aiming for a 5 (and I think I could have gotten it!), but given my major screw-ups, I'm hoping to just barely make a 4. How possible is this? And if getting a 4 is improbable, how are my chances at a 3?

Thank you so much!

The multiple choice sections are graded on a curve-it’s generally really hard to guess a score based on that unless you have everyone else’s scores. But I think a 4 is possible if you do amazing on the MC and 3s on the essays-but you might have gotten higher on the essays you never know.

On the bright side, a lot of school accept 4s and if the one you commit to does not-AP literature should get you out of the same class in university that AP language does (usually it is some kind of freshman seminar class)

best of luck and try not to worry!

It’s likely you get a 3-4. Graders are usually nice though so you are probably looking a 4. Just hope you did well on MC. However, just know AP exams are kind of a fluke unless you are serious about skipping the intro level classes in college, which are usually pretty different from high school classes. So I would just sit back and relax, since you probably won’t get to use your AP exams much anyways.

^I’m not sure about that. I thought I’d almost certainly gotten a 5 on Language last year, and in the practice multiple choice and free response prompts in class I did better than almost anyone else, typically getting ~80% and 8’s respectively, but I only got a 4.
