AP English Language Post Test Discussion

So what did we all think of the test

I thought the mc were for the most part easy and the frqs werent bad except for the stupid synthesis topic.

Yeah, the multiple choice was extremely easy. Surprisingly, out of all the topics, the second multiple choice passage was the hardest for me.
The essays were very easy, and I think it’s rather funny how taking an AP history ALWAYS helps on just about every AP exam besides math on the FRQ section. Oh, and I agree with you on the synthesis essay… Like, ***? The question was awkwardly worded, and the topic itself was terrible.
I wrote about four pages for each essay. What about you guys?

I actually thought the synthesis was fun…but maybe only because I am somewhat interested in the topic and had read up on it before. I agree with the rest though…

Some of the MC was a little hard, but for the most part it was easy. The synthesis essay though was quite awkward.

I loathed the synthesis question… why can’t it be something more interesting?

I felt the multiple choice was easier than what we did in class however there were some sticklers… I liked how the passages were actually interesting. As for FRQs. synthesis went okay, usually this is my least favorite essay but I think i did good. I realized that if you didn’t read the prompt thoroughly enough, you could misinterpret it and mess up your essay as I almost did. Rhetorical analysis went amazing! that’s my strength… but boy i think i over did my analysis and spent too much time on synthesis because i had 20 minutes left for the argumentative… heh heh… like the SAT! But it was so rushed… i had I think 6 paragraphs of like 3 sentences a piece because i was so scared that time would be called and I would be in mid-sentence. then I’d risk it and write another 3 sent. paragraph. XD

Oh, that sucks… Our proctor warned us when we should switch essay questions. I would have been just a scared if he didn’t. haha.

last FRQ was about gov. made unity in America right???

oh no. will i get a 2 if i didn’t establish an argument for the synthesis essay? I just said three key points and talked about the pro and con side of each side. WILL I GET A 2??? help!!

What were we supposed to do for synthesis? All I argued were the cons…

Don’t want to go to indepth in my response since officially we aren’t allowed to discuss the FRQs yet.

Essentially, I just argued on what grounds the subject was not good and stated that the cons outweighed the pros in my conclusion. For example, I said that the subject hurt people living in cities because they were too far away from the places related to the subject (as that one document said) and hurt countries depending on the type of exports related to the subject.

I’ll gladly go more indepth once the 48-hour time limit is up.

My situation is pretty much identical to neorobie’s… except I actually DID misinterpret the synthesis prompt and realized it after I had already finished (not to mention it was boring and really bland) :frowning: I did awesome on the analysis, too and the argumentative was hard to come up with substantial evidence (to disagree with the passage) that I could elaborate enough on.

I spent 40 minutes on each essay and then moved on… had about ten minutes left on the synthesis (which I did last). For the analysis I had about 3 1/3 pages and the other two I had 2 1/3 each so about 8 pages total =/

crap. I thought MC was ok for me; maybe a few hard ones here and there, then I found that I was off numbering on question 20. I’m ■■■■■■■■. So then i had to erase like 15 and rebubble; then i was fCKK because i had to haul ass on the next passages. Then i ***ed up again towards the end on like question 40…so I didn’t answer the last 6…damnnn

Essays were ok… just really illegible

If anyone can answer: Let’s say I miss 12 MC (gah) and then straight 6’s on my essays

Is that like a 3 or 4?

@Arthur: That’d be a pretty safe 4.

Loved the synthesis :). Seems like I am an oddball lol

when people are talking about pages, do they mean a page = front and back? or does the front = 1st page & back = 2nd page

@LovexLight - I think it’s just the front of a page that equals one page. I was wondering too :P

MC were fairly easy except the third one (not to mention there was talking in the hallways so I had issues concentrating, so obnoxious). I didn’t like the synthesis. I normally love writing those kinds of essays but I couldn’t get into it. The other two were okay though. Each of my essays was about three pages and a half. I’m predicting a 4 or a 5. I’d be happy with a 4 because I get credit, but a 5 is preferred.

I had 4 pages for synthesis, 3 for the other frqs. With one side being a page.

I kind of discredited the movement and its followers in my synthesis…I’m not sure if that’s ok.

I feel like all those rhetorical devices (asyndeton, synechdoche etc) were soooo pointless.

I had 7 for synthesis, 4 for first FRQ, and 5 for last FRQ (medium sized handwriting, but i write fast). I thought that mc was easy for the most part. There was like one question in each passage that I had trouble, so I don’t think it was bad at all.

the MC was ridiculously easy compared to what my teacher had us practice on.
loved the synthesis  mostly because it was super AP human geo and I’m the only junior in the school taking it, so I felt special haha.
anyways did you guys feel like it was hard to simply explain the issues in the synthesis? I found myself inclined to take a side and bash the group…
