My school doesn't offer any AP English classes (it's a private school, and it claims that our English curriculum is already AP level...who knows), and I'm planning to take the English exam in Language. What books are useful for me to use as study guides?

Cliffs is the best

My teacher for this class last year used Cliffs, and I would recommend them. I think I bought a couple to look over before the exam, but they weren't that much help (esp. Kaplan -- so stay away from that). If you can get your hands on old Language exams + answers, that is your best bet to study from.

practice essays too
once u get that, you'll do fine

Yea, dont use books, books dont help...use old exams...they really help!

thats pretty much all we did in my AP Eng. Lang. class last year.

I took English Language exam in May 2006 and got a 3. I just wanted to get the AP Scholar award because I already had two classes. I wasnt expecting a 4 or 5. Anyway I studied for it within a month using three books, Kaplan, Petersons, and REA. I never wrote essays, just did practice multiple choice. On the exam the multiple choice is hard but the essays are decent. I thought the exam was actually pretty hard. Out of the people who did take the class only one got a 5.
