AP English Language

So, the AP English Language exam is tomorrow, and I am self-studying...
except I have yet to actually do anything. Um, sweet?

I'm pretty much in the same situation. I just finished reviewin' Kaplan's book, but I still feel unprepared to analyze "rhetorical strategies" used in book exercepts given in the Free Response...

The only "preparation" I've done so far consists of looking at a sheet of rhetorical devices while I tried to complete my Latin homework last week.

I'm self studying using kaplan. So, i think i'm okay with essays, but my multiple choice isn't looking so good. Out of the three practice tests, i got a 65% on the first, 57.5% on the next, then 40% on the last. this downward trend slightly worries me.

Same, same. Just remember:
Rhetorical devices = tone, figurative language, diction, etc.
Style = sentence structure, choice of words, sentence length, punctuation

And always remember: Audience, message, purpose (when writing)

i'm in the same situation as well. i figure there's only so much you can do to prepare. when it comes down to it, either you can write, or you can't.

Whatever, I've decided that I don't really care that much.
I took one of the Kaplan practice tests...I missed one, skipped two, so I suppose I should be okay.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't diction and word choice the same thing?

That's what I was thinking as well...

Sorry, honest mistake. I probably meant something like word placement. Coordination, subordination...all that good stuff.

Hey now that the test is over what'd you guys think? I know we can't technically discuss anything about the questions, but what'd did u think difficulty wise? I didn't think it was too bad, hoping maybe for a 3.

seriously i thought thawt test was a joke
wow it was too easy
i felt like i wasted the greatness of my essays on that test

reminds me of the SATs and ACTs... except the passages were more interesting

def more interesting

I took this test last year, and the majority of our class passed, even though we had a HORRIBLE teacher. (It was her first and only year teaching AP).

I hated it. We never did anything remotely like these essays in our class. That's probably because our teacher bites. We never did ANYTHING remotely useful for the test in that class. I especially didn't like the second essay, because I'm so used to serious, boring passages instead of satirical ones.

I didn't take the class (it's only open to seniors and I'm a junior), but I didn't think it was too bad at all. The multiple choice was MUCH easier than I anticipated. I liked the essays, particularly the third one. I had a lot of trouble with the second one, though. Overall, I think it went well, and I'm anticipating a 4.

I thought the test was much easier than I expected. Multiple choice was really interesting and easy, first essay not too well, second ok, third good. My teacher was amazing. The essays were exactly the kind of things we did in class, so it was overall no surprise.

Even if I'd taken the class, I don't think I would have been prepared...
