AP English Literature - Help?

My advice for the essay: no matter what anybody says, you do have plenty of time for the essay, you just have to know how to use it. Do take the first 5 minutes or so and make yourself an outline, it will make your essay more organized and you will just be able to write rather than worrying about what to write about. Also, make sure you have a very strong thesis and conclusion, this is what the scorers will read first and last so it keeps them in tune with your essay and makes them remember it in the end. That's my strategy, hope it helps some!

Like everyone else has said take the time to remember a few works you have that you like or just remember. My favorites are:
~Gastby
~Crime and Punishment
~Antigone
~The Importance of Being Ernest (anybody else love the muffin part?)

And seriously just relax... I mean really whats the worst that can happen? Its not like this is a life or death situation!

Good Luck!!

Certain (mature) people in my class laughed for about 15 minutes after we read the muffin part.

Great adivice Paige! Honestly, that's the best strategy (for the essays) that I've come across so far.

For the third essay, I've got:

The Great Gatsby
Hamlet
King Lear
A Doll's House
Of Mice and Men

King Lear is my favorite! Courtney, you are officially amAzing.

fut- Thank you, thank you! King Lear truly is a great play.

What should we go over?

lol, just scan through the lit terms thread....

ahh-- the muffins--- I loved the cucumbers!

Actually, I just loved the play in general, so ridiculously funny!

Thanks so much for the advice on the essays-- good to know.

hey does anyone know where I can get the 2005 and 2004 ap english lit mc answers? I really need them because the Barrons q's are ridiculously challenging :(

Actually, in my opinion, all the questions in these prep books for APEL are ridiculous--

as for your answers for the mc--sorry, my teacher has the master copy :)

I would suggest going to AP Central on Collegeboard and looking up sample questions....

Can anyone give me an example of a KILLER introduction that can be pretty general.... I usually come out with good ones, but it'd be nice to brainstorm a backup that could work with anything. Is it even possible?:)

"hey does anyone know where I can get the 2005 and 2004 ap english lit mc answers? I really need them because the Barrons q's are ridiculously challenging "

Okay, so I'm not the only one who thought that about the Barron's book. The questions in there certainly are harder than the ones in my SparkNotes AP Power Pack

My choices:

Crime and Punishment
1984
Death of a Salesman
.
.
. And this is where my weakness kicks in. I remember stories fairly well but I can't REMEMBER NAMES... EVER. (even real people. I can't remember my teacher's names many times) Gah and CnP's russian names are going to kill me.. well long as I have Raskolnikov, Doestoevsky (spelled right?) Dounia and Sonia, Lizaveta, and Alyona remembered, i think i'll be fine.. although there are many other characters that i'm leaving out...

Has anybody taken the mock at their schools? IF you did, what did you get? I got a 4... (i think i got 80 something on the multiple choice) good job if you got a 5! WOOT!!

P.S. Has anybody read the "Sandbox" the play (with an old grandma?)

well...these are the recent plays we read in our class so im using:
HAMLET
GLASS MENAGERIE
DOLLHOUSE

in my opinion, u could use hamlet for ALMOST anything they ask

Well guys... I'm getting off soon. I hope none of you stay on here much longer... not to sound corny, but a good nights sleep is one of the ingredients for success tomorrow lol. Good Luck, I know everyone will do an awesome job! And don't forget your snacks for the break... my favorites are honey wheat pretzels and peanut M&M's!

what conflicting forces/symbols are there in hamlet?

cramcram

My ap lit teacher wants us to memorize a short quote from our top 3 or 4 works to use in the open-ended essay if appropriate. Should I? I mean, at this point, I'm pretty much resigned to using something as common "The horror, the horror" from HOD!

what are the essays about again

and are we allowed to use a particular book in more than 1 essay?

No-- don't even use that quote.

Try "to be or not to be,"

totally orginal essay opener...

haha, I'm thinking "You look as though your name was Earnest"

"As if that blind rage had washed me clean, rid me of hope; for the first time, in that night alive with signs and stars, I opened myself to the gentle indifference of the world."
- Albert Camus "The Stranger"

that will secure a 9
