AP English Summer Assignment

What's your school's AP English Summer Assignment? Mine is to read A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. Then we have to complete these worksheets about the characters being a Hemingway hero. Finally, we have to write a 2 page paper about the development of the characters, plot, etc.

Idk, seems pretty easy to me.

We have to read 3 of 6 books and make nicenet posts about them. They should total a few pages for each book.

The books are:
White Noise by Don DeLillo
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Wow--you guys have a lot more than we do. We just have to read Jane Eyre and Macbeth.

We have to read:
Tess of the d'Urbervilles
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

We also have to read a bunch of articles and do journal entries on them.

Purple Hibiscus-Adichie
The Awakening-Chopin
American Tragedy-Dreiser (900 pages! woot!)
If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things-McGregor

must. read. allllll of those. test the first day back

For IB English 11, we have to read "A Street Car Named Desire" and "A Chronicle of a Death Foretold."

We just have to read

Animal Farm
Tale of Two Cities

but we have to have a boat load of notes taken about them both and be prepared for serious analysis and discussion, otherwise; we'll be removed from the class.

We've got:

Fifth Business
Wide Sargasso Sea
Beloved

and...

Jane Eyre!

We have to read
The Joy Luck Club
and
A Seperate Peace

proletariat2, Did you already get the summer packets? I read The Road, Brave New World, and White Noise. I loved the first two, despised the 3rd.

Read Jane Eyre.
No papers or anything =)

We have to read The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, and Nickle and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. One fiction, one non-fction. take notes, write a paper on each.

and then we have to watching the movie Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore. you know, about columbine shooting and all that. and write a paper on that. it's not that bad but i can't see how it has something to do with AP Lang

A Doll's House - Ibsen
A Tale of Two Cities - Dickens
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - Joyce (chosen from a list)

We just have to read them over the summer; we get tested on them and have to do a writing assignment at the start of the school year.

We just have to read The Scarlet Letter and Crime and Punishment, no note-taking or anything involved.

That's barely anything, unless like many AP English takers, you are taking APUSH...oh boy.

OOooh gosh. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man? I'm a graduating senior now (feels good to say that!) and I had to read that book THIS year. Oooh the horror. The pain. The torture. I don't know, you'll probabably be better off than I did,, and by default you'll be better off than half of my english class. That one killed us. Grapes of Wrath is what I had to read for 11th grade summer reading....I was glad when I finished that. White Noise is pretty good, tho long. But good. Brave New World, I read in 9th grade and it's cool! One of the first books I actually understood in that class...yikes. I loved a Farewell to Arms and Beloved and A Day In The life Of Ivan D. so WOO to whoever has to read those! Hope you like them!

We had to read the Scarlet Letter and the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and keep reading journals for them.

For my senior AP English Literature class:

Required
Their Eyes Were Watching God; Zora Neale Hurston
Things Fall Apart; Chinua Achebe
The Taming of the Shrew; William Shakespeare
The Kite Runner; Khaled Hosseini

Recommended
The Book Thief; Markus Zusak
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; Mark Twain
And three others I can't remember

Our AP English program sucks. I don't think we have an actual AP class because we get AP credit by doing two projects or w/e. :/

I'm not sure what it is this year, but last year I think they had to read the Bible. D:
