AP Environmental Science--icky AP?

I'm going to be a senior next year and am trying to figure out whether or not i should take AP Environmental.

would it look bad on my application that i took a "bogus" AP? or does it not matter since i'm going to be taking 4 other APs and Honors Physics (my school doesn't have AP physics) in addition to taking environmental?

Should i take AP Bio instead, even though i hate bio?

Also, how much does it matter if i don't take 4 years of foreign language, and instead take only 3 (no AP)?

there was a thread about fake AP's a little bit ago

it was basically agreed that no AP is a "fake" AP- for some schools, AP ES is nothing, while at my school many bright students struggle to get a B and don't do very well on the exam (we don't have the best teachers for it right now). so take whatever you are more interested in.

you're a senior...who cares what colleges think by that time??? just don't get Ds.

I would take AP ES , especially if you are already taking physics. What are you looking to major in?

im thinking about majoring in engineering/some science (though i am DEFINITELY not doing pre-med/bio)

Okay go ahead and take AP ES. I think you have a great course selection for next year. Up to what level did you achieve in a foreign language?

thanks so much for your advice

ive taken up to spanish 4 honors (im taking that this year)

ive done really well in spanish, but i just HATE the subject. like with a passion. the resentment is palpable when im in the class. seriously.

If you're interested in it, take it!
APES is regarded as a "joke AP" at my school, too. It's an easy A, but 5s are very rare.

Anyway, I think that APES is a very relevant class, and I really enjoyed taking it.

haha im hoping that since it's senior yr, getting a 5 won't really be very important.

yea i think im going to take it since it's only 1 period (no lab! yes, i was very surprised) and 4576696 easier (as in less work) than bio.

4576696 times easier*

As with any class, it depends on the teacher. Great teacher? Take the class. Mediocre teacher? Take something you like better. You've got enough APs as is and nothing left to prove. Frankly, you'd be a much more interesting person if you took something you thought you were interested in but which was outside your comfort zone.

I am Hispanic and speak the language with most of my family members. I agree with you , I hate the subject. You can definitely stop at 4 honors, lol

Overall you have a great course selection. You will be more than qualified to apply to the best schools.

yes it is a vry relevant class

The class my be bogus but only 10% of test takers get 5s (opposed to something like Calc BC were 43% get 5s!)

^that's true, it has the lowest AP average in the nation

^ why ?

My school didnt hv any AP classes, so I took AP ES by myself. It is an interesting subject, and if u are really do care about environment issues, it can be absorbing too. I a got a 4. There a lot of topic to cover, and I loved the earthquake, geology stuff especially. I did not know they called it bogus AP! Oooh tht hurts :)

I self studied APES last year, got a 5, and now I'm taking the class.

I don't know why people consider APES a bogus AP.

The top 33 percent get 4 or 5's for the test. Bio has a 40% 4 or 5 rate and Calculus BC has a 60% 4 or 5 rate.

The AP class deals with real life issues that everyone should know. Personally, I think it is more enlightening than many other APs like Biology that just involve dull memorization of facts.

i dont knwo why. maybe cuz people who don't want to work in bio or chem or physics take it

My APES class is harder than my AP Chem class was. By far. I got an A+ and a 5 in chem. In APES, I'm doing more work just to get an A.
