How easy is Environmental Science? I signed up for it thinking that it would be an easy gpa-booster, but now I'm not so sure.
For those of you who took it, I'd like to hear some of your opinions.
Thanks in advance!

People in CC generally say APES is among the easiest APs. Now I got a 4 on the exam and a B+ in my APES class, and most colleges accept 4 or 5 on the exam but not 3, so if you aren’t getting that GPA boost you need to put more effort to studying, reading the book and taking notes.

And you should start doing some FRQ questions in College Board’s AP Central website.

The difficulty of the course depends on the teacher, but I can say that the subject material is considerably easier than, say, European History. You can read the APES textbook at 1 AM in the night and still understand what you’re reading, because lots of the material in Environmental Science is common sense and/or easy to comprehend. Moreover, it touches on various topics but never goes too far in depth. Some things you will learn about in the course include nuclear power, oil, environmental sustainability, and marine ecosystems.

Like you, I took the class for an easy GPA booster. It WAS easy - but at the same time, I found so much more value in the course than I originally anticipated. I highly recommend you take it.

Thank you for your input guys! I actually gave up spanish for this class so it’s good that i might like it.
Also if you guys took AP chem or AP stats, i would like to hear your opinions on those classes too. thanks!

I haven’t taken the APES exam yet, but I think it’s pretty hard, judging from the FRQs. Common sense will only take you so far on the FRQs … the FRQs are mainly you know it or you didn’t know it. And this is coming from someone who has taken AP Biology.

I just got perfect score on some of practice FRQ questions… after practicing millions of FRQ test packets… I regret I took this class

It’s not that bad. I self studied PR and got a 5
However, there are a lot of vocabulary terms you have to memorize

Well I don’t think I’m gonna take the exam next year cause I’m gonna be a senior (should I?). Also, I heard from one of my teachers that taking apes can make your app look bad? What’s that about? Thanks for your input guys!

“Taking APES can make your [college] app look bad”?

Did your teacher explain her thoughts? I suppose APES instead of one of the other AP sciences wouldn’t look as competitive, but if you’re taking it concurrently with another AP science…?

Taking AP ES can never look bad. But don’t expect colleges to see it the same as AP Chemistry.

If APES is your only science course for a school year, then that looks bad.

If you take APES in conjunction with another science, then that’s fine.

It’s easy–the only thing that can get you is if it is a two semester class and the “boring” parts pile up in one half combined with picky project and homework grading by the teacher.
The second half I say is interesting, but if you spend this much time and work on it is a guaranteed 4/5.
Lucky me, I happen to notice this is the only AP course that does not help me at college but stack up extra elective units. It is one of the lesser accepted APs.

If you trade AP Spanish anything for APES you are saving yourself tons of trouble with the AP exam (if you plan to take it)!

it’s a lot more vocabulary than anything else. There’s not a lot of critical thinking like other subject goo dluck!

APES is not about vocabulary - at all.

Well my teacher was GREAT. Even though there are a lot of vocabulary, If you study and read over the textbook and review book, you will be fine with it. When I took APES, I took 4 other AP classes together. So I’m pretty sure you should be fine. :)

Can you get a 5 with only a study guide in AP EnviroSci?

@mg0305, yes you can, but study diligently

is AP EnvSci exam easier than AP Human Geography exam? I have to decide which of the AP Exams I am going to take this year. Btw I am taking AP Biology as a school course, so with that in mind, which one would be easier for me? Because I heard AP HumGeo is a lot of bio concepts too… Thanks in advance!!! :)

no the aphg probably is easier, but i would do apes, it attaches nicely to the ecology portion of biology, and it is probably worth more than the aphg exam
