So, specifically, for AP European History and AP English Language, how should you approach the essay writing. Should you just write naturally and put down what you mean, or should you attempt to use a good vocabulary and use big words purposefully? I realize that the readers want sophistication, but is it possible for you to use a word that they don't know, and thus some might get mad at that?

I really want to get 5's on both. thanks

I just wrote down as much as i could on english language and at the time i thought they were really bad but i ended up with a 5. So id recommend getting your thoughts down and if you have time try to spruce it up

I have taken and passed both of these exams. The idea is to show that you know what you’re talking about and that you have a firm grasp of the material. If you’re shooting for 5’s, you’ll really need to show this. And you’ll also want to show that you have a mastery of writing skills to show that you’re thinking at an advanced level, especially on the English exam. So do throw in good vocabulary and big words, but not so much that you make your point unclear.

so should you just plainly say it, or would it be advisable to actually use some literary techniques e.g. repetition, alliteration, etc. or would they simply take away from the point?

Definitely use literary techniques because those will help you score higher. Just don’t use them so much that it takes away from the point you are making. I guess what I’m saying is you need to do a lot of practice and find a good balance to make sure you know how to get your point across. But definitely implement those writing strategies to show you are writing at an advanced level.
