Have any of you taken AP Euro and/or AP Lang?
I have 5 AP classes this year as a Junior in high school and i'm freaking out....
I'm thinking about dropping these two classes because I'm not planing on majoring in history or English, but instead I'm into math/science. Do you think that dropping these classes would be a bad idea?

This is my schedule right now:
AP Comp Sci
AP Calc BC
Elective
AP Euro
AP Lang
AP Bio
Chinese 4

First of all let me clear up a misconception. Just because you are not majoring in a particular field does not mean you shouldnt take APs related to those fields. Once you get into college, you can use the AP credit from those unrelated classes to defer credits for certain college courses that you would otherwise be forced to take. For example, if you take lang, you can defer comp, a required GE class at most colleges, and have more availability to take other more interesting courses like math and science. In other words, if you dont take it now youll have to later.

Now whether or not you plan on taking 5 APs is up to you. Taking all 5 could really help your GPA and college admission process. However, if you feel your ability isn’t quite there cut back a little. If you enjoy math and science Im sure u can breeze thru calc and comp sci(bio might take some work), but it also depends on the teachers. I took Euro last year as a sophomore and it does involve a bit of memorization and i had a lot of hw and reading for the class. Lang shouldnt be too bad but it all depends. If your really worried drop euro but i think you should be fine

I agree with the above.

Even though you’re not going to major in English, AP Lang could be an invaluable asset to you. It was a bit difficult at first, but became substantially easier as time went on. The college credit you may receive could also be an important factor. Of course, only you can determine whether taking AP Lang is to your benefit or not.

I don’t have any experience with AP Euro but from what I’ve heard, it can be relatively demanding. It’s comparable to AP World to some extent.

If you feel like your course load is a bit too much to handle, it’s okay to drop one. If any, I’d drop AP Euro.

One invaluable aspect about AP Lang is that it really hones your skill as a writer, which will not only help in life, but will be most helpful next year as you write a myriad of college application essays.

I can’t speak for AP Euro, as I’m taking it this year. I also plan on majoring in neither English nor History, but I am interested in the subject. Having survived APUSH, I expect AP Euro will be quite manageable.

What the others said, check if your desired college(s) accept credit for AP English Language and AP European History. If they do research into it if it turns out to be useful. From there you should find your answer whether you should take it or not.

thanks so much everyone! I’ll probably just keep my schedule then.
But at my school, they make us take both AP Euro and AP Lang… it’s either all or none.

Well I don’t know how hard it is at your school, but I took AP Euro last yearas a sophomore and found fairly easy, got an A+ in the class without putting in too much effort.

It depends on your school. AP Lang at my school is an easy A+ and 5 with little or no effort. AP Euro was hours upon hours of reading and outlining for a hard-earned A and 4. Ask seniors about the classes.
