AP Exam and Score Submission

My school did pre-bubbling today, and for the part that said "Choose ONE College to send the score to" I didn't know what to put since I don't want to get a bad score and have one of my dream schools see it, but at the same time I don't want to get a good score and see a college I don't care about see it. In the end I just chose a school I don't really want to go to but would if I were accepted. Most people just left it blank. Was that a good idea, or does it not matter that much?

As an extension to your question, if I select the “send scores” option in a future year, will it send previous years’ tests too?

I think it’s kind of weird to check anything unless you’re a senior and already know where you’re going…I mean, what do colleges want with the AP scores of some kid years away from applying? There’s no real reason to send AP scores at any point unless you want college credit after you’ve already been accepted somewhere…you don’t have to send them for admissions. You just self-report them on the Common App.

Oh, my teacher said to do it when he was giving instructions. I knew it was optional, but I saw other people doing it, so I just chose a college. #peerpressure

What college did you choose, IYDMMA?

princeton.

Your first time taking AP tests too?

You only do that if you already got into the college. (Even though someone already said that.)

Wait, if you get into the college, why would you take the AP Exam?

@DigitalKing Yep, first time.

@Yakisoba To get credit in college, which is the actual purpose of AP tests (as obscure as that may seem…)
What tests are you taking?

^ Oh, duh. I forgot that senior year actually matters still.

I’m just taking US Gov.

Or, I would add, if they already have a file for you (like an app already turned in, accepted or no). Otherwise, they have no idea who you are.

Our AP coordinator told us that the box only applied to seniors who knew where they were going - half of the seniors didn’t even do it because they have yet to decide - chances are, if you request to have them sent, they’ll just get lost in the system of whatever school you sent them to since you aren’t in the process of having an actual file created in the school’s admissions server.
