Hey, everybody!
So, as the title states- is it a good idea to take an AP Exam without taking the AP Class? Now, let me get some background down now before it gets confusing or I sound like I’m going in 100% blind.
Last year, I decided to enroll in an Independent Study with my Sophomore US History teacher. He’s really talented, I enjoyed his class, but I wanted to shoot for AP World History instead of his APUSH class since I enjoy it more and, also, I planned on taking APUSH Senior year (like 90% of people) anyway, so I’d have him 3 years in a row- even better for me.
Now, taking the Independent Study, it’s a Political Science course. Essentially, he’s teaching me the ins and outs of preparing an essay and understanding topics- and the main thing is the subject of the entire Semester, that being the “Primary Essay” as he’s calling it. I got to choose the prompt for it: that the US is no more politically divided now than it has been in any time during its political history (that’s not verbatim, but it’s a summary of my abstract- an abstract of an abstract? lol). Anyway, I felt that the topic was interesting, and I’ve been doing a TON of research. In fact, so much research that I asked him for the APUSH textbook and have been going through it.
Essentially, what I’m asking- would it be plausible for me to use the APUSH textbook as an actual guide to assist me in taking the APUSH exam without even taking the class? It’d really free up my Senior schedule not having to take the test; and hell, it’d look pretty good on a transcript if I were to do well, right?
