AP exams

Hi everyone,
Is it necessary to take AP exams? My understanding is that Yale offers placement tests once admitted. So what’s the benefit of taking AP exams? My daughter is interested in medicine. She is currently a sophomore taking several AP classes. Thank you for your insight.

IMO, it raises questions when someone has taken an AP class and has not taken the AP test associated with it. That concern is related to admissions rather than trying to place out of a particular course.

The tests, while not very precise, do tell the AOs something: 5s and (some) 4s are okay, but 3 and lower do raise questions. I have seen students get straight As in AP classes but score poorly on the test. That might not be entirely the student’s fault. It works the other way also. DS received what he considered an unfair grade in APUS (B). He took the AP test (5) and Subject Test (780) as an eloquent rebuttal to the grade.
