AP Exams

AdmissionsDaniel:

Should I even bother taking a US History or US Government AP Exam if JHU doesnt accept it? Plus i will be a science major for sure and history/politics is not something i plan to take much further. Also, the other colleges i'm applying to either give minimal credit or none for history/politics.

I want to know the answer to this too.

Depends when you're taking it, I would imagine... (Though Daniel can give you the official answer)

If you're going to take it as a senior, it's not as if it could at all affect your admissions chances.

If you're taking it as a junior or earlier, it could at least show your commitment to do well in a rigorous class/testing environment that isn't your area of focus (diversification, blah blah).

I ended up taking US history, US government and international government, plus English...none of which Hopkins gave me credit for...I had already taken some in freshman/soph/jr year and already signed up for the sr year ones before I decided where to go....but basically, it's up to you (and your school's policy - some require you to take the test if you take the class).

I agree with Michelle - I took all the AP exams I could junior year, but senior year, even though I took AP classes in English and both Governments, I didn't take either exam because Hopkins wasn't going to give me credit for it. I did take the Microecon and Physics C exam and I placed out of both of those classes.

AP scores do not matter in the Admissions process. That's simple isn't it.

So the decision to take AP exams that JHU will not offer credit for, is yours to make as it will not impact how your file is reviewed at all. Take the AP courses definitely, but the exams are your choice! Remember though every school has a different policy on AP/IB scores, so because JHU does it one way doesn't mean it is done the same elsewhere.
