So I am a junior and I am in french two. I know you’re thinking “then why is he thinking about AP French?” well because I know im either gonna major or Minor In French. I just need advice on how I would come to take it. I could do three over the summer and take French 4 and AP French Senior year. If anyone has other ideas let me know. I know my senior year will consist of these AP’s:
AP STAT or AP CALC AB
-AP BIOLOGY
which I know that it will be tough but I wanna gonna do ap euro but I wanna do AP french because I love foreign language and I know it’d be a good class since it’d be something I’d in college.
If you want to major or minor in french, then definitely do your plan to end up in AP French.
If you didn’t major in French, what woudl you major in?
If history, then definitely take AP Euro.
If STEM, then take AP Bio (or AP Physics) and AP Calc.
Do you feel you could do 4 APs?
How well did you do in Pre-calc or other math classes?
Foreign languages are sequential. You can’t take French 4 and French AP senior year unless your school has block scheduling.
What you CAN do if you live near a college is take College French 1 this semester. College French 2 next semester ( it’ll love very fast and will cover roughly three years if high school French ) then College French 3 over the summer, and then AP French senior year. If you think if minoring or majoring in it, consider taking AP euro.
You should talk to the lead French teacher at your school and your guidance counselor. At our high school French 3 has a large culture component so those with strong grammar and vocabulary skills from French 2 often test out of French 3. Also French 4 and AP French are combined (block schedule). But of course your school may have very different curriculum for those two levels.
The other way of thinking about this is to not worry about what level you are in but make sure to take the SAT subject test in French in time to put on your applications. That might say more about your interest in French and aptitude than the high school course level.
^in college, a LOT of the language is used to understand the culture, history, literature. Students who skipped the Culture-based French 3 would likely find college French very difficult (as culture is embedded in College French 1 and on.)
Many top colleges require Level 3 in Foreign language and prefer Level 4 or AP. Many flagships recommend a minimum of 3 years and will give bonus points for rigor if you reach higher level, but will consider students with only 2 years.
If you plan on majoring in French, taking the SA Subject is indeed a good idea. (November test if you want with Listening section; December test if you don’t.)
Well I would take french 3 online and do french 4/ ap senior year I talked to the lead chair of the french department and she thinks im capable of doing so. Also I will be looking into the SAT.
You can take subject tests in May/June junior year (right at the end of the school year, when the material’s still fresh in your mind) or Fall senior year, after you’re done with your general SAT testing.
My D used a study guide and her teacher provided supplements. She scored 740 junior year on the subject test (non-native percentile was something like 93% I think) and submitted that with all her apps. She then scored a 5 on the AP. She just started college and took its proficiency test. The result of all 3 tests is that she placed into upper 200 level courses and is on track to spend junior year in Aix.
