My dream school is MIT, and I have a spot open on my schedule for senior year. These are the classes I am currently registered for:
-AP Lit & Comp
-AP Stats (took calc bc last year)
-AP Computer Science A (took csp last year)
-AP Physics 2 (took c mechanics & self studying c electricity & magnetism)
-Honors Latin 4 (no ap latin in my school)
-Senior Engineering
Since prestigious universities prefer 4 years of every subject, I would be grateful for any advice on which history class I should take. I took Honors World History freshmen year, and APUSH 1 & 2 sophomore and junior year. For senior year, should I take AP Gov, AP Euro, or AP Micro/Macro Econ?
Which of those three interests you most?
Take the class that interests you with the best teacher. Which class you select will likely have no impact on your admission to MIT.
Economics interests me the most, but I really have no preference. However, on other forums I was reading about “core” APs that one should take every year for competitive universities, which includes history. So I was leaning towards AP Euro, just because it would look better for colleges.
I don’t really know the teachers for each of the classes, but isn’t there a concept of the “core” AP classes that one should take every year?
All three of the courses you mentioned would qualify as your 4th year of history/social science. If AP Economics interests you most, take that.
This is excellent advice: https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/applying_sideways/
Alright, sounds good. Thank you so much!
Take AP Econ if that is what interests you most. I can’t imagine a college turning you down or accepting you based on this selection - unless you say you want to major in Econ or Eur. His. I would also advise you to ask your guidance counselor to see what he /she says or ask kids in your school what the teachers/classes are like. If all the same, go with AP Econ since it interests you most.
Got it, thank you so much!
