I’m looking for some info on the Comparative Gov vs US Gov AP exams. DS took US Gov last year and thought it was pretty easy. Did almost no work and still got a 4 on the exam. The teacher isn’t very good, so the class is kind of a snooze. Now DD is thinking about her schedule for next year. Her school added AP Comparative Gov this year with a better teacher, but we don’t know anything about the exam. Is it a hard one or is it relatively easy like US Gov?

It’s harder, but it’s mostly generalizations. I took a practice test, and did well without any studying or taking a class, and did well just from what I knew from reading the news (important as the test brings up current events) and from history. If she is interested she’ll do fine, but if not, or if she’s taking 10 APs, she will have a bit of a difficult time.

AP Comparative Gov is the government version of AP World History if she took that course. It focuses on 6 countries: Britain, Russia, Nigeria, Mexico, China, and Iran.
