AP Gov Question

Guys, Im really stuck on this question and would appreciate any help.

According to the three-fifths compromise, 5 slaves were counted as 3 people for the purpose of
representation, direct taxation, census

I know the first 2 are right, but is census right? Like indirectly, I think it is, because you need a census to determine representation but the wording confuses me.

Census is definitely right. The Three-Fifths Compromise (TFC) was established primarily for enumeration purposes (i.e. census). The other 2 uses of the TFC (representation and taxation) came because of its primary purpose: census/enumeration/counting people.

Thank you! I just saw your reply :)
