AP Hell

My school district is annoying. They have harsh rules for classes you need to take in order to graduate (such as art and computers, as if I can’t draw stick figures and am completely inept at using a computer) and various rules about AP classes. The thing that bothers me the most is that freshmen in high school in my district aren’t allowed to take AP classes. I have no idea why we have this rule and it’s annoying. While looking through these forums, I’ve noticed many people have taken AP classes as freshmen. I am now a sophomore and narrowing down my college search. How will my lack of AP classes compared to others affect my chances of getting into more competitive colleges? Will they know about my district’s restrictions? and finally, are these restrictions common for other people? thanks

and if anyone needed the info, I am currently taking 2 APs: AP USH and AP Physics. By the time I graduate, the AP classes I will take are AP Lang, AP Calc, AP World, AP Bio, AP Lit, AP Chem, AP Stats (and maybe AP psych), so about 9 - 10.

Colleges look at your schedule in the context of what is available to you. Your counselor will indicate if you took a schedule that is considered rigorous at your school.

Our HS doesn’t allow freshmen to take AP courses either. I know students who have made it to Stanford, Harvard, Yale, UCB, UCLA, Claremont schools and others. So it obviously didn’t hurt them.

Your schedule looks fine. Good luck!

okay thank you for your help! I’ve been worrying about this for some time now lol
