I seriously hate my school's system. I DESPISE it.

In my school, you cannot take AP classes until senior year, which is pointless to me, because I need my AP test scores before senior year to send with my college application (sending application in January of senior year).

I can easily self-study AP Biology, Psychology, Environmental Science, and English Language and Literature, but I want to be able to send AP Chem, Physics, and Calculus AB scores as well. Can I self-study them? I mean, is it doable?

I'm a generally smart student, and can handle a fair amount of work. I'm hoping to get accepted into NYU or in one of the Ivy Leagues.

I'm a junior next year. Please, any suggestions?? Would I still be a fair candidate?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Over what time period would you be taking all these AP courses/ are you actually planning on self studying all of them? It will be very tough to self study Bio, Psych, Enviromental Science, English Language AND Literature, Chem, Physics, and Calc AB all in one year on top of your other junior courses.

I mean, how important are AP scores? Besides, schools were understand because they view you in the context of your school, and your school doesn’t allow you to take them until senior year. Just take them senior year, and do the best you can in other rigorous classes.

Yeah, don’t self-study ALL of those in one year plus your junior year courses. Your regular grades are important too. Pick a few of them- Psych is very easy to self study. I did that this year. I took Calc AB at school but I think it’d be a manageable self-study, wasn’t difficult. I’ve heard Enviro & English Lang are easy to self-study, although I haven’t selfed or taken those at school. I’ve taken English Lit at school, not difficult, so that could be a possibility to self it also. Not sure about Bio- it’s all memorization, so if you’re good at that, maybe it would work, but I’m not sure cuz I haven’t taken it. I wouldn’t recommend selfing Chem or Physics, although I’ve heard some people have managed it. But don’t do all of those, it’s too much.

Thank you for the answers.

I guess I’m just a worry-wort. ^.^" The thing is, my school’s system isn’t THAT strong to begin with (in my opinion, it seems pretty weak). Actually, I almost never study and I managed a 4.0 these past 2 years. So I figured if I played my cards correctly, I could squeeze in a few self-study AP courses to spruce up my application. And I’m sure
Psychology is VERY easy for me, as well as Biology and Chem. Physics is a bit hard compared to other subjects, but I guess that may be because my teacher can’t speak English very well, and I ended up memorizing everything because I was getting anything from the class. I guess I could do English. I’m an avid reader and an excellent writer, and overall I enjoy the subject.

So Calculus AB is doable? If so, I guess I could squeeze it in…? Any thoughts on self-studying Calculus AB??

Thanks again! I really appreciate it :D

Have you completed precalculus? If so, shouldn’t the school let you enroll in a calculus course? If not, you should complete precalculus before calculus.

If you have exhausted the offerings at your high school, another option is to take courses at a local community college.
